Gut -draining mesenteric and celiac lymph nodes (mLNs and celLNs) critically contribute to peripheral tolerance toward food and microbial antigens by supporting the de novo induction of regulatory T cells (Tregs). These tolerogenic properties of mLNs and c ...

Purpose: This study was designed and conducted to validate the reference values of hematological parameters for healthy adult male and female residents of Kabul city, Afghanistan. Methodology: In this cross-sectional study, the samples were collected accor ...

We introduce a skin-inspired epidermal bioelectronic patch (EBP) with unprecedented integration of graphene on silk with a facile and cost-effective fabrication process, excluding complex ink formulation. We advance the state-of-the-art by directly screen- ...

Alterations in cellular nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD(+)) levels have been observed in multiple lifestyle and age-related medical conditions. This has led to the hypothesis that dietary supplementation with NAD(+) precursors, or vitamin B3s, could ...

The last decade has seen a strong proliferation of therapeutic strategies for the treatment of metabolic and age-related diseases based on increasing cellular NAD(+) bioavailability. Among them, the dietary supplementation with NAD(+) precursors-classicall ...

Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) are the most common bacterial pathogens causing urinary tract infections (UTIs). Driven by the development of antibiotic resistant UPEC strains, UTIs have become a major public health issue and generate substantial hea ...

Maintaining a metabolic steady state is essential for an organism's fitness and survival when confronted with environmental stress, and metabolic imbalance can be reversed by exposing the organism to fasting. Here, we attempted to apply this physiological ...

Bioluminescent imaging is a powerful technique that enables imaging in living organisms with high sensitivity, low background signal, low cost and without the need for radioactivity. The emitted photons are produced in the oxidation reaction of luciferin c ...

Acting as an extracellular matrix protein receptor, alpha(v)beta(3) integrin becomes an appealing target for photodynamic therapy of bladder cancer. Here, specific alpha(v)beta(3)-integrin-targeting porphyrinato-gadolinium complexes (Gd-PEG-R-n) are demons ...

Background Physical frailty and loss of mobility in elderly individuals lead to reduced independence, quality of life, and increased mortality. Vitamin B12 deficiency has been linked to several age-related chronic diseases, including in the musculo-skeleta ...

Background: The prognostic significance of free cancer cells detected in peritoneal fluid at the time of rectal surgery remains unclear. A substantial number of patients will develop metastatic disease even with successful local treatment. This prospective ...

The catalytic N-formylation and N-methylation of amines using CO2 as the carbon source represents a facile and sustainable approach for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and natural products. Herein, we describe highly effective and inexpensive thiazolium c ...

Drug discovery and development is a high-risk enterprise that requires significant investments in capital, time and scientific expertise. The studies of xenobiotic metabolism remain as one of the main topics in the research and development of drugs, cosmet ...

Fluorescence cystoscopy enhances detection of early bladder cancer. Water used to inflate the bladder during the procedure rapidly contains urine, which may contain fluorochromes. This frequently degrades fluorescence images. Samples of bladder washout flu ...

Vitamin B-12-depende enzymes function in core biochemical pathways in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, an obligate pathogen whose metabolism in vivo is poorly understood. Although M. tuberculosis can access vitamin B-12 in vitro, it is uncertain whether the org ...

Anti-coagulation treatments are required for medical conditions that become more and more frequent with the ageing of the population in developed countries (atrial fibrillation, deep-venous thrombosis, heart prosthetic valves, etc.). These treatments gener ...

An estimated 400 million people worldwide suffer from bladder diseases. However, little is known at the cellular level as to what causes or initiates many of these diseases. Therefore, this thesis has focused on understanding one cell type within the bladd ...

Quantification of chemical toxicity continues to be generally based on measured external concentrations. Yet, internal chemical concentrations have been suggested to be a more suitable parameter. To better understand the relationship between the external a ...

The detection and prognosis of prostate cancer in its early stages are critically important. It is therefore essential to improve the existing dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE MRI) techniques commonly used for the assessment of the tumour vascular enviro ...

Machine learning has been largely applied to ana- lyze data in various domains, but it is still new to personalized medicine, especially dose individualization. In this paper, we focus on the prediction of drug concentrations using Support Vector Machines ...
