Catalysts play a major role in chemical synthesis, and catalysis is considered to be a green and economic process. Catalysis is dominated by covalent interactions between the catalyst and substrate. The design of non-covalent catalysts came into limelight ...

Deracemization of racemic chiral compounds is an attractive approach in asymmetric synthesis, but its development has been hindered by energetic and kinetic challenges. Here we describe a catalytic deracemization method for secondary benzylic alcohols whic ...

1,2-Bis(2'-nitrophenoxy)-3-R-benzenes {R = H (1), CH3 (2) and OCH3 (3)} have been prepared from the S-N-Ar reaction between 1-fluoro-2-nitrobenzene and 3-R-catechol (aromatic diol), and are then reduced to the corresponding diamines 1,2-bis(2'-aminophenoxy ...

The deep terrestrial subsurface remains an environment where there is limited understanding of the extant microbial metabolisms. At Olkiluoto, Finland, a deep geological repository is under construction for the final storage of spent nuclear fuel. It is th ...

Radioactive iodine-129 (I-129) and technetium-99 (Tc-9(9)) pose a risk to groundwater due to their long half-lives, toxicity, and high environmental mobility. Based on literature reviewed in Moore et al. (2019) and Pearce et aL (2019), natural and engineer ...

The creation of new chiral ligands capable of providing high stereocontrol in metal-catalyzed reactions is crucial in modern organic synthesis. The production of bioactive molecules as single enantiomers is increasingly required, and asymmetric catalysis w ...

Detection and differentiation of enantiomers in small quantities are crucially important in many scientific fields, including biology, chemistry, and pharmacy. Chiral molecules manifest their handedness in their interaction with the chiral state of light ( ...

This study experimentally analyzes the performance and degradation issues of an anode supported (AS) Ni-YSZ solid oxide fuel cell exposed to thiophene (C4H4S). The impact of this organic sulfur compound on the performance of SOFC Ni-YSZ anodes is reported ...

A new general three-stage strategy to access polycyclic ring systems bearing all-carbon quaternary centers with high enantioselectivity is reported. The required starting materials were readily accessed in racemic form through the alpha-alkynylation of ket ...

The detailed description of gas streams in biomass gasification plants is necessary for the correct design and operation of these units. Sulfur containing compounds are usually present in biomass gasification gas, since sulfur is typically found in the fee ...

1-Alkoxy-2-methyl-3-acyloxy-(E,E)-penta-1,3-dienes have been prepared applying among others a modified Danishefsky's general method, including chiral, racemic, and achiral derivatives. ...

Sulfur poisoning in a strontium doped lanthanum cobaltite (LSC) cathode current collection layer was revealed in a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) tested in repeat-element and stack configuration. Sources of sulfur contamination, other than trace SOx in air, ...

Profiles of the major sulfur functional groups in mature Norway spruce wood tissue have been established for the first time. The big challenge was the development of a method suitable for sulfur speciation in samples with very low sulfur content (

Using readily available chiral auxiliaries such as (+)- and (-)-camphanic acid, (R,R)- and (S,S)-tartaric acid derivatives (e.g. RADO(R)-COCl, SADO(R)-COCl) efficient diastereoselective syntheses of rare sugars and glycomimetics have been developed. They e ...

A new one-pot synthesis of sulfoxides is presented. It involves the bora-ene reaction of sulfur dioxide and prop-2-ene-1-boronic esters, giving mixed anhydrides of sulfinic and boric acids. The latter react chemoselectively at the sulfur center with Grigna ...

Under appropriate conditions sulfur dioxide reacts with 1,3-dienes in a hetero-Diels-Alder fashion. In the case of 1-alkoxy-1,3-dienes the 6-alkoxy-3,6-dihydro-1,2-oxathiin-2-oxides (sultines) so-obtained can be ionized in the presence of Lewis or protic a ...

The diastereoselective synthesis of chiral coordination compounds with d metals proved the effectiveness of the pinene-bipyridine approach in predetermining the chirality at the metal centre. The strong Lewis acidic character of lanthanide cations required ...

In the presence of sulfur dioxide and an acid promoter, (-)-(1E,3Z)-2-methyl-1-((1S)-1-phenyleth- oxy)penta-1,3-dien-3-yl isobutyrate reacts with (Z)-3-(trimethylsilyloxy)-pent-2-ene giving a silyl sulfinate intermediate that undergoes, in the presence of ...

2-Methylprop-2-ene-1-sulfonyl fluorides can be easily prepared via the ene reaction of methallylsilanes and SO2. In the presence of a base, aldehydes and 2-methylprop-2-ene-1-sulfonyl fluorides give 1.3-(E) and (Z)-dienes. Their (Z) --> (E) isomerization b ...

Natural polyketides show important biological activity. The inherent stereochemical complexity present in this class of molecules has captured the imagination of organic chemists. Their stereocontrolled, asymmetric total synthesis is a permanent and stimul ...
