Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) to multi-carbon products such as ethylene, ethanol and n-propanol offers a promising path for utilization of excessive CO2 and energy storage. Oxide-derived Cu electrodes are among the best electrocatalysts ...

This study experimentally analyzes the performance and degradation issues of an anode supported (AS) Ni-YSZ solid oxide fuel cell exposed to thiophene (C4H4S). The impact of this organic sulfur compound on the performance of SOFC Ni-YSZ anodes is reported ...

The energy sector is undergoing several transformations in an effort to tackle climate change, driving society towards reducing energy consumption and more sustainable energy conversion. In this context, electrochemical devices such as Solid Oxide Cell (SO ...

A typical La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-delta (LSCF) electrode was reconstructed by X-ray nanotomography. The new Nano Imaging beamline ID16A-NI of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) was used to conduct the investigation. Particular attention was ...

Chemical process optimization problems often have multiple and conflicting objectives, such as capital cost, operating cost, production cost, profit, energy consumption and environmental impact. There are several conversion technologies that can convert Sy ...

In catalysis science stability is as crucial as activity and selectivity. Understanding the degradation pathways occurring during operation and developing mitigation strategies will eventually improve catalyst design, thus facilitating the translation of b ...

A solid oxide short stack composed of 6 Ni-YSZ supported cells, YSZ electrolyte and GDC-LSC oxygen electrode has been tested for 10,700 hours in steam electrolysis. Initial degradation was followed by a global stabilization of the performance after lowerin ...

Lifetime and durability issues connected with Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) technology are strongly related to the amount of contaminants that reach the stack. In this study the focus is on organic silicon compounds (siloxanes) and their highly detrimental ...

Fuel cell and hydrogen technologies are re-gaining momentum in a number of sectors including industrial, tertiary and residential ones. Integrated biogas fuel cell plants in wastewater treatment plants and other bioenergy recovery plants are nowadays on th ...

Chromium poisoning is a widely recognized degradation process in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). Stainless steel interconnect plates, in direct contact with the cathode, have been identified as the major chromium source, raising a need for electrically cond ...
