New trends in electroactive-polymers (EAP) based devices for soft actuators and for electrocaloric cooling revive studies on compact, efficient, reversible and low power supply. High electrode resistance, high voltage and small capacitance of EAPs represen ...

Spinal cord injuries (SCI) often lead to upper limb impairment, necessitating innovative solutions for daily assistance beyond traditional rigid robotics due to their impractical weight and size. Despite still preliminary, soft wearables are arising as a p ...

The measurement and generation of mechanical deformations is a key functionality in health monitoring, human-machine interaction, and soft robotics. However, current methods typically rely on small and hard transducers, which result in poor performance, cu ...

Vertebrates, including amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals, with their ability to change the stiffness of the spine to increase load-bearing capability or flexibility, have inspired roboticists to develop artificial variable-stiffness spines. However, ...

Navigation of humanoids in cluttered environments is a complex task which requires sensorimotor coordination while maintaining the balance of the walker. Typically, robots rely on greedy computation of slow, inefficient and unnatural gaits. This contrasts ...

One of the challenges of minimally invasive surgery is the dexterous manipulation and precise control of small diameter continuum surgical instruments. In this paper, a magnetic continuum device with variable stiffness (VS) is presented, whose tip can be p ...

An injection deviee for injecting injection material, comprising: an elastic deformable element (3) able to exert a pushing force on a piston (20) of a syringe (2) so as to eject a quantity of injection material out of the syringe (2); a stopper ( 4) for r ...

The coordination of multi-robot systems is becoming one of the most important areas of research in robotics, mostly because it is required by numerous complex applications. These applications range from intelligent transportation systems, search and rescue ...

The evolution of the morphology and degree of crystallinity was investigated postmortem in initially amorphous specimens of a commercial poly(dl-lactide) with a relatively low d-lactide content, after different immersion times in liquid CO2 at 10 A degrees ...

Non-viscoelastic castable elastomers are replacing the polyacrylate VHB films in the new generations of dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) to achieve fast and reliable actuation. We introduce the optimum prestretch conditions to enhance the electromecha ...
