Analytical wind turbine wake models are widely used to predict the wake velocity deficit. In these models, the wake growth rate is a key parameter specified mainly with empirical formulations. In this study, a new physics-based model is proposed and valida ...

The applicability of two Reduced-Basis techniques to parametric laminar and turbulent incompressible fluid flow problems in nuclear engineering is studied in this work. The Reduced-Basis methods are used to generate Reduced-Order Models (ROMs) that can acc ...

This paper presents image velocimetry measurements on turbulent flows adjacent to a permeable bed made of randomly packed glass particles. For measuring flow velocities inside the bed, the refractive index of the glass particles was matched with that of th ...

Flows of gases and liquids interacting with solid objects are often turbulent within a thin boundary layer. As energy dissipation and momentum transfer are dominated by the boundary layer dynamics, many engineering applications can benefit from an improved ...

In steep streams, turbulent flows run over coarse sediments that are similar in size to flow depth. Under these conditions, a significant part of the flow may seep through the permeable bed. Based on experimental data, this paper presents a model able to r ...

The seminal work of DiPerna and Lions (Invent Math 98(3):511-547, 1989) guarantees the existence and uniqueness of regular Lagrangian flows for Sobolev vector fields. The latter is a suitable selection of trajectories of the related ODE satisfying addition ...

We show that the imaginary multiplicative chaos exp(i beta Gamma) determines the gradient of the underlying field Gamma for all log-correlated Gaussian fields with covariance of the form -log|x-y|+g(x,y) with mild regularity conditions on g, for all d >= 2 ...

In this work, we highlight an issue that may reduce the accuracy of many local nonlinear gyrokinetic simulations – turbulent self-interaction through the parallel boundary condition. Given a sufficiently long parallel correlation length, individual turbule ...

We present a physics-inspired mathematical model based on successive linear eigenmode projections to solve the relaxation of small-amplitude and two-dimensional viscous capillary-gravity waves with a phenomenological nonlinear contact line model. We show t ...

Landslide-generated waves, also called impulse waves, occur as a result of the intrusion of landslides (such as rock falls, debris flows, and avalanches) into bodies of water (such as lakes, reservoirs, and seas). The objective of this thesis was to study ...

Steep mountain streams exhibit shallow waters with roughness elements such as stones and pebbles that are comparable in size to flow depth. Owing to the difficulty in measuring fluid velocities at the interface, i.e., from the rough permeable bed to the fr ...

The measurement and generation of mechanical deformations is a key functionality in health monitoring, human-machine interaction, and soft robotics. However, current methods typically rely on small and hard transducers, which result in poor performance, cu ...

We consider several aspects of conjugating symmetry methods, including the method of invariants, with an asymptotic approach. In particular we consider how to extend to the stochastic setting several ideas which are well established in the deterministic on ...
