Résumé

An approach for a low-power chip-scale package is described, that provides a laser output with a programmable frequency across 50 nm of bandwidth centered at 1550 nm, and a resolution of one part in 10(14).

Pointeur laser (présentation)

vignette|300px|Pointeurs laser. Un pointeur laser est un outil utilisé par les conférenciers pour désigner des objets sur un tableau ou un écran. C'est la version moderne de la baguette d'autrefois. À base d'une diode laser de couleur rouge, il prend généralement la forme d'un stylo ou d'un porte-clef. Muni d'un bouton poussoir, il est alimenté grâce à des piles. Il existe une version « haute technologie », pour conférenciers, du célèbre couteau suisse. Il est équipé d'un stylo, d'un éclairage à LED, d'un pointeur laser et d'une clé USB.

Laser pumping

Laser pumping is the act of energy transfer from an external source into the gain medium of a laser. The energy is absorbed in the medium, producing excited states in its atoms. When the number of particles in one excited state exceeds the number of particles in the ground state or a less-excited state, population inversion is achieved. In this condition, the mechanism of stimulated emission can take place and the medium can act as a laser or an optical amplifier. The pump power must be higher than the lasing threshold of the laser.
