Background: Eating disorders (EDs) are serious psychiatric disorders characterized by impairments in neurocognition and altered brain structure. To date the majority of studies have investigated these in acutely ill or recovered individuals. Studying child ...

The nematode Caenorhabditis elegans offers a uniquely tractable model for studying the relationships between neuronal activity, connectivity, and behavior. Despite its simplicity, key questions remain about how information flows through its nervous system ...

Reinforcement feedback can improve motor learning, but the underlying brain mechanisms remain underexplored. In particular, the causal contribution of specific patterns of oscillatory activity within the human striatum is unknown. To address this question, ...

Accurate PET quantification of tracer uptake in small brain structures is confounded by low sensitivity and the partial volume effect (PVE) caused by limited spatial resolution. In this study, we present the second prototype of the Prism-PET brain scanner ...

A user’s benefit from the energy stored in a battery over its lifetime depends on the time-varying characteristics of the battery, which are in turn affected by the chosen usage behavior. Both the capacity shrinkage and the number of lifetime cycles are st ...

In an era where portable electronic devices are indispensable for a wide range of activities, the need for displays that provide both long-lasting battery life and excellent visibility in different lighting conditions is increasingly important. Emissive di ...

The decline of motor ability is a hallmark feature of aging and is accompanied by degeneration of motor synaptic terminals. Consistent with this, Drosophila motor synapses undergo characteristic age -dependent structural fragmentation co -incident with dim ...

While humans are known to have several premotor cortical areas, secondary motor cortex (M2) is often considered to be the only higher -order motor area of the mouse brain and is thought to combine properties of various human premotor cortices. Here, we sho ...

The terminology of neurological disorders encompasses a range of serious illnesses (e.g., epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease) leading to morbidity, disability, and stigma. Epilepsy alone affects over 50 million people worldwide, and these figures are rising as ...

We are constantly bombarded by sensory information and constantly making decisions on how to act. In order to optimally adapt behavior, we must judge which sequences of sensory inputs and actions lead to successful outcomes in specific circumstances. Neuro ...

An important function of the brain is to interpret incoming sensory information from the outside world to guide adaptive behavior. Understanding how and where sensory information is transformed into motor commands in a context- and learning-dependent manne ...

Predictive health assessment is of vital importance for smarter battery management to ensure optimal and safe operations and thus make the most use of battery life. This paper proposes a general framework for battery aging prognostics in order to provide t ...

"Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages" is the third sustainable development goal for the United Nations Agenda of 2030. This doctoral thesis fully embodied this objective by targeting stroke, a leading cause of death and disabili ...

Continuous dendrites growth, as well as corrosion and side reactions of Zn metal anode seriously hinder the development of aqueous zinc ion batteries. To address these issues, oleic acid (OA) is dispersed into a 2 M ZnSO4 solution to form a novel colloidal ...

Motor skill learning is a crucial process at all ages. However, healthy aging is often accompanied by a reduction in motor learning capabilities. This study characterized the brain dynamics of healthy older adults during motor skill acquisition and identif ...

Herein, a fluoropolymer bifunctional solid membrane interface (SMI) for an aqueous Al-air battery is proposed, which inhibits anodic self-corrosion, while concurrently reducing the accumulation of undesirable by-products. A battery using the SMI exhibits a ...

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neuromuscular disease caused by loss of the SMN1 gene and low SMN protein levels. Although lower motor neurons are a primary target, there is evidence that peripheral organ defects contribute to SMA. Current SMA gene ther ...

The premotor (PM) and primary motor (M1) cortical areas broadcast voluntary motor commands through multiple neuronal pathways, including the corticorubral projection that reaches the red nucleus (RN). However, the respective contribution of M1 and PM to co ...

Uncontrollable zinc dendrite growth and parasitic reactions have greatly hindered the development of high energy and long life rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries. Herein, the synergic effect of a bifunctional lignin-containing cellulose nanofiber (LCN ...

T1-weighted structural MRI is widely used to measure brain morphometry (e.g., cortical thickness and subcortical volumes). Accelerated scans as fast as one minute or less are now available but it is unclear if they are adequate for quantitative morphometry ...
