In this paper, we consider the first eigenvalue.1(O) of the Grushin operator.G :=.x1 + |x1|2s.x2 with Dirichlet boundary conditions on a bounded domain O of Rd = R d1+ d2. We prove that.1(O) admits a unique minimizer in the class of domains with prescribed ...

We introduce a high-order spline geometric approach for the initial boundary value problem for Maxwell's equations. The method is geometric in the sense that it discretizes in structure preserving fashion the two de Rham sequences of differential forms inv ...

We construct a spectral sequence converging to the homology of the ordered configuration spaces of a product of parallelizable manifolds. To identify the second page of this spectral sequence, we introduce a version of the Boardman-Vogt tensor product for ...

To steer the sustainable transition in the food and energy sectors, reliable environmental data is required to answer environmental questions related to single agricultural crop, food product or energy technologies. Life cycle assessment (LCA) has been wid ...

Refineries execute a series of interlinked processes, where the product of one unit serves as the input to another process. Potential failures within these processes affect the quality of the end products, operational efficiency, and revenue of the entire ...

Jet injection devices have been studied and developed for transdermal drug delivery to avoid the use of needles. Such contact-less devices provide several advantages such as better dose control, lateral and depth localisation, lower collateral damage than ...

Virtual metrology (VM) involves estimating a product's quality directly from production process data without physically measuring it. This enables the product quality of each unit of production to be monitored in real time, while preserving the process eff ...

We discuss some properties of generative models for word embeddings. Namely, (Arora et al., 2016) proposed a latent discourse model implying the concentration of the partition function of the word vectors. This concentration phenomenon led to an asymptotic ...

Machine intelligence greatly impacts almost all domains of our societies. It is profoundly changing the field of mechanical engineering with new technical possibilities and processes. The education of future engineers also needs to adapt in terms of techni ...

The time-bandwidth limit is a mathematical tenet that affects all reciprocal resonators, stating that the product of the spectral bandwidth that can couple into a resonant system and its characteristic energy decay time is always equal to 1. Here, we devel ...

In this work, the probability of an event under some joint distribution is bounded by measuring it with the product of the marginals instead (which is typically easier to analyze) together with a measure of the dependence between the two random variables. ...

We show that the finitely generated simple left orderable groups G(rho) constructed by the first two authors in Hyde and Lodha [Finitely generated infinite simple groups of homeomorphisms of the real line. Invent. Math. (2019), doi:10.1007/s00222-01900880- ...

Assortment planning deserves much attention from practitioners and academics due to its direct impact on retailers' commercial success. In this paper we focus on the increasingly popular retail practice to use combined product assortments with both "standa ...

With the increasing complexity of the highly engineered products, Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is proposed to support the complexity management of the product development. As the basic of complexity management, complexity analysis is used to meas ...

We consider a durable-goods monopolist who is able to control the collaborative consumption of its goods on an aftermarket by a sharing tariff. Consumers are heterogeneous with respect to their respective need propensities in each period. We show that the ...

While the extant innovation literature has provided extensive evidence of the so-called "demand-pull" effect, the possible diverse impact of demand evolution on product vs process innovation activities has not been yet investigated. This paper develops a f ...

Five-membered nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds (azoles) belong to potential moieties in complex structures where transformations during ozonation can occur. This study focused on the azole-ozone chemistry of pyrrole, imidazole, and pyrazole as mo ...

The product selectivity in the electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide depends on the structure of the copper electrode. Cube-shaped copper catalysts, enclosed by {100} terraces, {110} edges, and {111} corners, exhibit a size-dependent enhanced only se ...

We show that the configuration spaces of a product of parallelizable manifolds may be recovered from those of the factors as the Boardman-Vogt tensor product of right modules over the operads of little cubes of the appropriate dimension. We also discuss an ...

X-ray irradiation has been extensively used in recent years as a fabrication step for nanoparticles and nanoparticle systems. A variant of this technique, continuous-flow X-ray irradiation, has recently been developed, and offers three important advantages ...
