Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) featuring high densities of selective metal binding sites represent promising materials for the extraction of toxic metal ions from liquids. This study presents a Zr‐MOF containing accessible thiol functionalities that demonstrates exceptional adsorption capacity and recyclability for the capture of lead(II) ions (Pb(II)). Structural characterization via Pair Distribution Function (PDF) and Powder X‐ray diffraction (PXRD) analyses revealed well‐defined Zr‐clusters interconnec

Lithium thiophosphate (LPS) is a promising solid electrolyte for next-generation lithium-ion batteries due to its superior energy storage, high ionic conductivity, and low-flammability properties. Despite its potential, the high reactivity of LPS with common contaminants such as atmospheric water, preparation solvents, and electrode materials poses significant challenges for commercialization. The lack of understanding regarding the structure, morphology, and chemical behavior of the surface of LPS slows do

Introduction-Thermal pollution can have considerable influence on water temperature in freshwater systems notably affecting stratification [Kirillin et al., 2013]. Consequences can be seen across the entire aquatic food web [Barnett, 1971; Cairns, 1971; Sylvester, 1972]. The increased usage of aquatic systems as sinks and sources of heat necessitates detailed investigations of the impact of thermal pollution on lakes and reservoirs. Here we investigate the impact of thermal pollution on temperature and heat

This paper presents the design and thermal characterization of a 15 × 22 mm2 LTCC module dedicated to the packaging of the elements of a miniature atomic clock. This module acts as a carrier for the components of the clock as well as temperature controller; this is particularly attractive since each component of the atomic clock requires precise and well defined working temperatures. For the thermal characterization of the designed module, various thermal simulations have been performed, by finite-element m

The electronic structure of the optimally hole-doped pnictide compound Ba0:6K0:4Fe2As2 was obtained and studied by angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). The light polarization dependence of the bands is explained by the selection rules contained in the photoemission transition matrix elements, and gives novel information on the possible orbital character of the bands. The Fermi surface geometry also shows important variations with light polarization. An attempt is made to analyze its more compl

The motivation of this work derives from the need of the cutting tool industry to improve its products in order to support harder and harder working conditions, namely increasing cutting speeds and working on stronger modern materials. The lifetime of the tools is limited by plastic deformation that occurs at the cutting edge under working conditions, which involve high temperatures and stresses. The high temperature deformation of the materials that are used for the production of cutting tools is studied.

A combined thermal and simple kinetic model is applied to a small single solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC, 20 cm2 square cell of anode supported electrolyte with 1 cm2 active area). The aim was to compute the temperature field to analyze the operating conditions of the active area of the cell. The cell is simulated in the conditions used for electrochemical characterization, i.e. at negligible fuel utilization and thermally non-adiabatic. Though using a very simple kinetic model, the simulated polarization curve

Disorder has a strong influence on the spectral properties of the Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x high-T-c superconductor, both in the normal and in the superconducting state. High-resolution photoemission reveals a progressive quasiparticle suppression with increasing disorder in electron-irradiated optimally doped single crystals. The spectral Line shapes of the disordered samples show striking analogies with those of underdoped samples specifically the widely discussed pseudogap at the chemical potential. Disorder provi

The nature and the role of 1 to 5 nm thick TiO2 seed layers for the growth of textured PbTiO3 and Pb(Zr, Ti)O-3 thin films on textured Pt(111) thin film substrates have been studied. Under otherwise identical in situ sputter deposition process conditions, the PbTiO3 texture could be turned from (100) to (111) orientation by adding the seed layer. This is demonstrated by patterning the TiO2 film. Auger electron spectroscopy and x-ray photoemission spectroscopy showed that the seed layer was a continuous TiO2

Crystalline diamond coatings and, increasingly, diamond-like amorphous carbon (DLC) films are used for tribological and protective layers for their hardness and chemical inertness. They are also under investigation for their electron emitting properties, with possible applications in field emission displays. In this study, hydrogen-free DLC films were deposited by laser ablation using a KrF excimer laser and fluences between 0.5 and 2 J/cm(2). Information about the disorder and short range order in the film

Ballistic emission electron and X-ray photoelectron emission microscopy studies are presented for the sulfur-passivated Pt-GaP(001) buried metal-semiconductor interface. The topographic/ballistic images showed that the roughness of the metal-semiconductor samples after sulfur passivation and Pt deposition is higher than in the as-received substrate. The photoelectron emission microscope microimages showed a significant inhomogeneity as far as the interface chemical environment is concerned. The strongest in

The reflectivity of TmS single crystals has been measured between 3 meV and 12 eV at room temperature and at 6 K, Besides 3p(6)-5d interband transitions a plasma edge due to free carriers is observed. In the middle infrared (near 50 meV) two sharp lines are found which are interpreted as transitions from the Fermi level into empty crystal field split 4f(1 3) states. A Bremsstrahlen isochromat spectroscopy (BIS) measurement supports the assumption that the empty 4f(1 3) state is close to the Fermi energy. (C

We report a modification by thin silicon nitride intralayers of the Au/n-GaAs)(100) Schottky barrier height. Thin intralayers were obtained by nitridation of evaporated Si films on decapped GaAs substrates in an argon-nitrogen mixture plasma. The nitridation was performed at a beam energy

A first-principles investigation of Si 2p core-level shifts at the Si(001)-SiO2 interface is presented. We introduce several relaxed interface models obtained by attaching different crystalline forms of SiO2 to Si(001). These model structures contain the minimal transition region required to accommodate the three intermediate oxidation states of silicon, in accord with photoemission experiments. The bond density mismatch is fixed by saturating all the bonds, as required by electrical measurements, Calculate

Multilayered Co/Cu wires with a diameter of 80 nm and a length of 6 mu m were produced by electrodeposition in nanoporous polycarbonate membranes. Their magnetoresistance has been measured in a geometry where the current was perpendicular to the layer plane. The anisotropic part of the magnetoresistance was limited to 1.5%. The study, for layer thicknesses ranging from 3 to 100 nm interpreted in terms of the Valet and Fert model gave estimates of the spin dependent bulk and interface resistivities acid thei

Evaporation of a Cs overlayer in the submonolayer and monolayer regime on a cleaved GaAs(110) surface has been studied by core-level photoemission spectroscopy. The experimental results show three different adsorption regimes deduced from the lineshape of the Ga 3d, As 3d and Cs 4d core levels. These spectra, in fact, result from the overlap of different contributions that have been identified as a function of the Cs coverage: (a) at low Cs deposition a prevalent Cs-As binding and a small percentage of Cs-G

Photoemission has become a most powerful electronic probe of high-T-C superconductors. The main present emphasis is on the BCSCO-2212 gap symmetry. After much controversy a consensus emerges: (1) no symmetric s-waves; (2) the symmetry depends on temperature and doping; (3) the optimal doping data are consistent with d(x)2(y)2 waves; (4) for other dopings, the symmetry is consistent with mixed s and d-waves. The data, though, cannot rule out other hypotheses, specifically asymmetric s-waves. Photoemission al

Photoelectron spectroscopy with high-energy resolution has been utilized to investigate the charge-density wave (CDW) in 1T-TaS2 between 20 and 360 K. Constant binding-energy curves reveal discontinuities in the temperature dependence of the photoelectron spectral function rho(E), and demonstrate that sudden modifications of the electronic structure, namely, in the vicinity of the Fermi level E(F), mark the first-order CDW transitions. In the commensurate phase, below 180 K, rho(E(F)) reflects the formation

We identified the nature of the chemical reaction between silver and the cleaved surface of BiCaSrCuO at room temperature as a Bi-Ag reaction with Bi segregation, accompanied by interaction with the Sr atoms. Our synchrotron-radiation photoemission spectra also reveal an interaction of the adatoms with the O atoms, not detected by previous studies.

Silver chloride containing fibers, spheres and particles of irregular form is used as a model material to study plasticity in metal matrix composites. Matrix dislocations generated upon cooling by the mismatch of coefficient of thermal expansion between the matrix and the reinforcement are observed by transmission optical microscopy after decoration at room temperature by photodissociation of the matrix. The plastic zone around the fibers, spheres and particles takes two forms: (a) trains of coaxial prismat
