Tunable metamaterials functionalities change in response to external stimuli. Mechanical deformation is known to be an efficient approach to tune the electromagnetic response of a deformable metamaterial. However, in the case of large mechanical deformatio ...

Nonlinear photoluminescence (N-PL) is a broadband photon emission arising from a nonequilibrium heated electron distribution generated at the surface of metallic nanostructures by ultrafast pulsed laser illumination. N-PL is sensitive to surface morphology ...

Two-dimensional (2D) materials are atomically thin crystals with exceptional mechanical, electrical and optical properties. Their unique characteristics originating from quantum confinement in the vertical dimension have attracted a strong interest for sci ...

Recent studies investigated the hydrolysis of Magnesium (Mg) thin films, highlighting their potential use in biodegradable devices. Quantitatively monitoring the degradation rate and morphological changes of Mg through optical methods and light-delivery de ...

This paper demonstrates the capability of locally resonant metamaterials (LRMs) for creating compact metallic waveguide E- and H-bends, which are simultaneously working as bandpass filters. For creating these bent meta-filters, we use composite pin-pipe wa ...

Invariance under time translation (or stationarity) is probably one of the most important assumptions made when investigating electromagnetic phenomena. Breaking this assumption is expected to open up novel possibilities and result in exceeding conventiona ...

Tungsten diselenide (WSe2) is a 2D semiconducting material, promising for novel optoelectronic and phononic applications. WSe2 has complex lattice dynamics and phonon structure. Numerous discrepancies in the literature exist regarding the interpretation an ...

The interior transmission eigenvalue problem is a system of partial differential equations equipped with Cauchy data on the boundary: the transmission conditions. This problem appears in the inverse scattering theory for inhomogeneous media when, for some ...

Plasmonic effects including near-field coupling, light scattering, guided mode through surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), Forster resonant energy transfer (FRET), and thermoplasmonics are extensively used for harnessing inexhaustible solar energy for photo ...

Environmental noise, mostly related to human activities, has an immense impact on public health. The development of noise reduction technologies is paramount in addressing this problem. Because of practical and economic reasons, a compact, broadband, light ...

Devices based on two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors hold promise for the realization of compact and versatile on-chip interconnects between electrical and optical signals. Although light emitting diodes (LEDs) are fundamental building blocks for integrate ...

The pursuit of high-speed and on-chip optical communication systems has promoted extensive exploration of all-optical control of light-matter interactions via nonlinear optical processes. Here, we have numerically investigated the ultrafast dynamic switchi ...

Recent advances in ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy provide access to hidden phases of correlated matter, including light-induced superconducting states. The theoretical understanding of these nonequilibrium phases remains limited, particularly for correl ...

Long and flexible arrays of nanowires find impactful applications in sensing, photonics, and energy harvesting. Conventional manufacturing relies largely on lithographic methods limited in wafer size, rigidity, and machine write time. Here, we report a sca ...

Roughness, defined as unevenness of material surfaces, plays an important role in determining how engineering components or natural objects interact with other bodies and their environment. The emergence of fractal roughness on natural and engineered surfa ...

This Review discusses the progresses in label-free nanophotonic biosensors based on photonic or dielectric surfaces and metasurfaces and highlights the challenges and benefits of their applications in the fields of public health, well-being and biosafety. ...

Coupling of space-separated resonators is interesting for quantum and communication technologies. In this work, we show that antiferromagnetic resonance in separated parallel-plane slabs of hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) couple cooperatively to terahertz electroma ...

Providing an additional degree of freedom for binary information encoding and nonreciprocal information transmission, chiral single photons have become a new research frontier in quantum optics. Without using complex external conditions (e.g., magnetic fie ...
