Coherent superposition of electronic states, created by ionizing a molecule, can initiate ultrafast dynamics of the electron density. Correlation between nuclear and electron motions, however, typically dissipates the electronic coherence in only a few fem ...

Carbon dioxide electrolysis (CO 2 E) in fully aprotic organic electrolytes primarily yields oxalate (C 2 O 4 2−), carbon monoxide (CO), and carbonate (CO 3 2−). To understand this system, we investigated the adsorption dynamics in the CO adsorption region ...

Energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) spectrum imaging yields compositional information with a spatial resolution down to the atomic level. However, experimental limitations often produce extremely sparse and noisy EDX spectra. Under such conditions, every detecte ...

Applications such as optical clocks, gas spectroscopy, and optical coherent tomography stand to benefit significantly from the integration of on-chip supercontinuum sources. Materials exhibiting both second- and third-order nonlinearities are particularly ...

Since the discovery of graphene in 2004, there has been rapid progress in research on two-dimensional (2D) material’s potential applications with significant impact. Efforts to bring 2D materials closer to industrial production, quality assessment, and sta ...

We present a numerical implementation, based on Wannier interpolation, of a Kubo-Greenwood formalism for computing the spatially dispersive optical conductivity in crystals at first order in the wave vector of light. This approach is more efficient than di ...

Hydrogen clathrate hydrates are ice-like crystalline substances in which hydrogen molecules are trapped inside polyhedral cages formed by the water molecules. Small cages can host only a single H-2 molecule, while each large cage can be occupied by up to f ...

Infrared and Raman spectroscopies are ubiquitous techniques employed in many experimental laboratories, thanks to their fast and non-destructive nature able to capture materials' features as spectroscopic fingerprints. Nevertheless, these measurements freq ...

The detection of inelastically scattered soft x-rays with high energy resolution usually requires large grating spectrometers. Recently, photoelectron spectrometry for analysis of x-rays (PAX) has been rediscovered for modern spectroscopy experiments at sy ...

Vibrational Raman scattering-a process where light exchanges energy with a molecular vibration through inelastic scattering-is most fundamentally described in a quantum framework where both light and vibration are quantized. When the Raman scatterer is emb ...

The combination of palladium salts and bipyridyl ligands can lead to the formation of a large variety of coordination complexes, with different shapes and sizes, displaying a very versatile host-guest chemistry. Increasing their structural complexity remai ...

Curcuminoids and their complexes continue to attract attention in medicinal chemistry, but little attention has been given to their metabolic derivatives. Here, the first examples of (arene)Ru(II) complexes with curcuminoid metabolites, tetrahydrocurcumin ...

Electrically connected and plasmonically enhanced molecular junctions combine the optical functionalities of high field confinement and enhancement (cavity function), and of high radiative efficiency (antenna function) with the electrical functionalities o ...

To characterize in detail the charge density wave (CDW) transition of 1T-VSe2, its electronic structure and lattice dynamics are comprehensively studied by means of x-ray diffraction, muon spectroscopy, angle resolved photoemission (ARPES), diffuse and ine ...

Metal-porphyrins are studied intensively due their potential applications, deriving from the variety of electronic and chemical properties, tunable by selecting metal centers and functional groups. Metalation, de- and trans-metalation processes are fundame ...

Microcomputed tomography (mu CT) is a nondestructive X-ray imaging method used in plant physiology to visualize in situ plant tissues that enables assessments of embolized xylem vessels. Whereas evidence for X-ray-induced cellular damage has been reported, ...

The earth-abundant and non-toxic material Zinc phosphide (Zn3P2) is a promising candidate for solar cell applications. However, growth of defect-free, high-quality thin films on substrates that can integrate with current technology (e.g. silicon) remains c ...

Tungsten diselenide (WSe2) is a 2D semiconducting material, promising for novel optoelectronic and phononic applications. WSe2 has complex lattice dynamics and phonon structure. Numerous discrepancies in the literature exist regarding the interpretation an ...

Pt(II)-based molecular catalysts stand as a prototypical system in hydrogen evolution reactions (HER) owing to their consistently elevated activity levels. Their integration into heterogeneous systems thus provides an ideal platform to develop catalytic ma ...

Coherent light sources emitting in the terahertz range are highly sought after for fundamental research and applications. Terahertz lasers rely on achieving population inversion. We demonstrate the generation of terahertz radiation using nitrogen-vacancy c ...
