Electrification of the energy section, from generation to end-use, plays an essential role in reducing global CO2 emission. Innovations in power electronics are required to increase conversion efficiency and power density. Gallium nitride (GaN) transistors ...

Heat transfer measurements of flow boiling Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in vertical upward direction have been carried out with a dedicated test facility at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). The experiments have been conducted in a vertical up ...

Three-Dimensional Multi-Processor Systems-on-Chip (3D MPSoCs) are promising solutions for highly intensive Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data applications. They combine remarkably dense computation capabilities and massive communication bandwidths. ...

The global warming potential (GWP) of working fluids in thermodynamic cycles and their environmental impact have been gaining considerable attention within the recent years. The global objectives on climate protection are becoming increasingly ambitious, w ...

Passive, gravity-driven thermosyphons represent a stepchange in technology towards the goal of greatly reducing PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of datacenters by replacing energy hungry fans of air-cooling approach with a highly-reliable solution able to d ...

Carbon dioxide two-phase flow characteristics are different from those of conventional refrigerants, due to the CO2 particular thermodynamic and transport properties obtained by working at high reduced pressures. Moreover, the use of peculiar heat transfer ...

Deeply-scaled three-dimensional (3D) Multi-Processor Systems-on-Chip (MPSoCs) enable high performance and massive communication bandwidth for next-generation computing. However, as process nodes shrink, temperature-dependent leakage dramatically increases, ...

In my thesis, I reveal several already-existing and emerging challenges in multi-objective management of multiprocessor systems, and address them through novel solutions, from heuristics to RL, depending on the complexity of the problem. Conventional multi ...

The paper presents a comprehensive review of fundamentals and engineering applications of CO2 flow boiling heat transfer, flow patterns and two-phase pressure drops in macro- and micro-channel evaporators. First, distinctions of macro- and micro-channels a ...

Thermal management is one of the main challenges for the future of electronics1,2,3,4,5. With the ever-increasing rate of data generation and communication, as well as the constant push to reduce the size and costs of industrial converter systems, the powe ...

Distric Energy System (DES) represents a promising opportunity to improve energy efficiency and boost the decarbonization of the European energy sector. If most of the studies focus on small consumers typically located within urban areas, large energy user ...

High-energy physics (HEP) experiments and space missions share a common challenge: thermal management in harsh environments. The severe constraints in both fields make cooling of electronic components a major design concern. This thesis aims to develop hig ...

An important part of the electricity production relies on heat conversion. Indeed power plants burn fuels like natural gas, coal or use nuclear fission to produce heat that can be transformed into electricity through a thermodynamic cycle and the mechanica ...
