Graphene transfer methods either employ support layers that have to be removed after transfer, giving rise to impurities, or are based on delamination from bulk crystals, yielding only small flakes with various thicknesses. We present a graphene transfer m ...

Tuning the reactivity of graphene enables molecular-level engineering of the lattice, achieving desired chemical and structural properties through functionalization, doping, and etching. Atom-thin graphene film hosting Å-scale pores, with capability to dif ...

Recent studies on memristive materials and technologies have expanded beyond conventional memory elements, driven by their potential application in novel information processing concepts. Among these materials, conductive domain walls in ferroics are especi ...

Graphdiyne (GDY) with a direct bandgap, high charge carrier mobility, and ordered pore structure, is considered an excellent matrix for the construction of heterojunction photocatalysts. However, the traditional fabrication methods for GDY-based heterojunc ...

Nanostructured graphitic materials, including graphene hosting Å to nanometer-sized pores, have attracted attention for various applications such as separations, sensors, and energy storage. Graphene with Å-scale pores is a promising next-generation materi ...

Biologically inspired solid-state nanopores are artificial openings or apertures in thin membranes similar to natural protein ion channels in a lipid bilayer of cell membranes. In solid-state nanopores, a thin insulating membrane with single or multiple po ...

Tailoring the surface properties of 2D materials, such as transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), at the nanoscale is becoming essential in the fabrication of various 2D material-based nanoelectronic devices. Due to the chemical inertness of their basal ...

Plasmonic nanostructures allow to controllably enhance linear and nonlinear light-matter interactions by concentrating the electromagnetic fields at the scales below the diffraction limit. This feature is highly desired for many applications, e.g. bio- and ...

We present a transient absorption setup combining broadband detection over the visible-UV range with high temporal resolution (similar to 20 fs) which is ideally suited to trigger and detect vibrational coherences in different classes of materials. We gene ...

The study of the nanometer-scale vacancy defects (nanopores) in graphene by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is severely hindered by the presence of polymeric residues originating from the graphene-transfer-step to the TEM grid. The state-of-the-art ...

We present an analytical model to describe the stability of arbitrary semiconducting nanoparticle (NP) superlattices as a function of the dipole and polarizability of their constituents. We first validate our model by comparison with density functional the ...

Nowadays, the interest in 2D materials has gone far beyond graphene. Specially, monolayers of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) offer a broad spectrum of electronic and optical properties, and show the potential to revolutionize the electronics indus ...

Improved sensitivity and continuous monitoring of therapeutic compounds are two of the most highlighted concerns for the treatment of malignant diseases, such as cancer. We demonstrated ultrasensitive screening of etoposide, a therapeutic compound widely-u ...

Nanoelectromechanical systems constitute a class of devices lying at the interface between fundamental research and technological applications. Realizing nanoelectromechanical devices based on novel materials such as graphene allows studying their mechanic ...

In this thesis, angular resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) is used to study the electronic structure of different two-dimensional electron systems (2DES). This technique is very surface sensitive and the most direct method to probe the surface ban ...

A chemically synthesized graphitic material where the structural coherence between the layers is missing approximates very well the assembly of graphene sheets. Our multi-frequency (9.4-420 GHz) electron spin resonance (ESR) study clearly identifies itiner ...

Graphene, a single layer of carbon atoms, exhibits excellent charge transport properties. However, due to the absence of a band gap in this two-dimensional carbon nanostructure, graphene-based field effect transistors cannot be turned off. One strategy to ...

Graphene-based nanomaterials are expected to have a profound impact on a broad range of applications. However, studies devoted to investigating the putative adverse health effects of these nanomaterials are hugely underrepresented in the current scientific ...

The propagation of surface waves along spatially dispersive graphene-based 2-D waveguides is investigated in detail. Graphene is characterized using a full-k(rho) conductivity model under the relaxation-time approximation, which allows to obtain analytical ...
