Today, we are witnessing the Internet of Things (IoT) revolution, which facilitates and improves our lives in many aspects, but comes with several challenges related to the technology deployment at large scales. Handling ever growing amounts of information ...

Gallium Nitride (GaN) has enabled groundbreaking developments in the field of optoelectronics and radio frequency communication. More recently, GaN devices for power conversion applications have demonstrated excellent potential. Thanks to Gallium Nitride w ...

III-N family of materials has offered multiple groundbreaking technologies in the field of optoelectronics and high-power radio-frequency (RF) devices. Blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have revolutionized low-energy lighting. Gallium nitride (GaN) RF mark ...

A recent 2D spinFET concept proposes to switch electrostatically between two separate sublayers with strong and opposite intrinsic Rashba effects, exploiting the spin-layer-locking mechanism in centrosymmetric materials with local dipole fields. Here, we p ...

Like integrated electronics, integrated photonics such as Silicon Photonics benefit from increased device-density on a single chip. Silicon is an excellent material for integrated photonics because its high refractive index allows devices to be made small, ...

Organo-metal halide perovskite field-effect transistors present serious challenges in terms of device stability and hysteresis in the current-voltage characteristics. Migration of ions located at grain boundaries and surface defects in the perovskite film ...

Dielectric nanoresona tors uniquely support both magnetic and electric resonances across a wide wavelength range. They are thus being exploited in a growing number of groundbreaking applications. In particular, they have been recently suggested as promisin ...

In this article, we propose an explicit and analytic charge-based model for estimating short-channel effects (SCEs) in GaN high-electron-mobility transistor (HEMT) devices. The proposed model is derived from the physical charge-based core of the ecole Poly ...

Silicon used for electronics has a cubic crystal lattice, which makes the material unsuitable for photonics applications. A method for producing germanium and silicon-germanium alloys that have hexagonal lattices offers a solution. ...

Charge reorganization energies (k) of inter-ring carbon-carbon (IRCC) bond connected conjugated polycyclics are shown to exhibit an electric-field-driven anisotropic character. An external electric field parallel to the IRCC linker(s) reduces k while the f ...

In many semiconductor technologies, including GaN, the lack of p-channel devices is a major obstacle for complementary operations. Here, we demonstrate high-performance polycrystalline diamond p-channel transistors on GaN-on-Si. Following the optimization ...

With the surge in complexity of edge workloads, it appeared in the scientific community that such workloads cannot be anymore overflown to the cloud due to the huge edge device to server communication energy cost and the high energy consumption induced in ...

We present the world's first backside-illuminated (BSI) single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) based on standard silicon-on-insulator (SOI) complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology. This SPAD achieves a good dark count rate (DCR) after backs ...

In 2006, the group of Dr C.M. Lieber pioneered the field of nanowire sensors by fabricating devices for the ultra-sensitive label-free detection of biological macromolecules. Since then, nanowire sensors have demonstrated their ability to detect cancer-ass ...

The EC-system of the TCV tokamak is progressively being upgraded with the addition of two MW-class dual-frequency gyrotrons (84 and 126 GHz/2s/1MW). In order to connect the two gyrotrons to the existing low field side and top launchers, new waveguide routi ...

In this letter, we present high-performance GaN-on-Si metal-oxide-semiconductor high electron mobility transistors with record reverse-blocking (RB) capability. By replacing the conventional ohmic drain with a hybrid tri-anode Schottky drain, a high revers ...
