Energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) spectrum imaging yields compositional information with a spatial resolution down to the atomic level. However, experimental limitations often produce extremely sparse and noisy EDX spectra. Under such conditions, every detecte ...

The oxidation behavior of stoichiometric Ti0.12Al0.21B0.67 coatings is investigated by scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) after oxidizing for 1, 4 and 8 h at 700 degrees C and at 800 and 900 degrees C. In the as deposited state, a similar to ...

Since the discovery of graphene in 2004, there has been rapid progress in research on two-dimensional (2D) material’s potential applications with significant impact. Efforts to bring 2D materials closer to industrial production, quality assessment, and sta ...

Gas-assisted focused electron beam-induced deposition (FEBID) as a direct, minimally invasive 3D nanopatterning tool offers many advantages in making nanostructures with complex shapes and novel compositions for evolving nanotechnological applications. In ...

We present two open-source Python packages: "electron spectro-microscopy"(espm) and "electron microscopy tables"(emtables). The espm software enables the simulation of scanning transmission electron microscopy energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy datacubes ...

The growing field of pulsed electron microscopy (PEM) currently suffers from technical challenges, many of which are related to the inefficiency of present pulsed emitters. In this research, we explore semiconductor photoemitters as a replacement of conven ...

Modern solid-state devices were made possible by the discovery of semiconductor heterostructures. Heterostructures offer the ability to fabricate low-dimensional nanostructures such as quantum dots which can restrain carriers in all three-directions. Quant ...

The magnetic force microscope (MFM) is an established experimental tool for imaging stray fields with high spatial resolution and sensitivity. The MFM contrast can however contain contributions from the sample topography, variations in the surface Kelvin p ...

The limitations and potential complications correlated with autogenous bone grafts have raised interest in the development of synthetic bone graft substitutes. ß-tricalcium phosphate (ß-TCP) is one of the most promising materials for synthetic bone graft s ...

Electron Energy Loss Spectrometry (EELS) in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) is a powerful tool for the investigation of the electronic structure of materials. In the low loss regime, one can access the optical properties which are governed by the di ...

This device is for holding samples during their preparation prior to imaging in the electron microscope. The design means it can be transferred between the light and electron microscopes as well as trimming devices used to prepare the final sample. It can ...

Interest in high resolution imaging techniques has recently multiplied due to their importance in bio-medical research. Quantitative phase measurements by holographic microscopy is an extraordinary tool to gain new understanding of transparent biological s ...

The vascular wall exhibits nonlinear anisotropic mechanical properties. The identification of a strain energy function (SEF) is the preferred method to describe its complex nonlinear elastic properties. Earlier constituent-based SEF models, where elastin i ...

We show that the rod-shaped Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) can be coated with the wide band gap semiconductor zinc oxide by electroless deposition under mild reaction conditions. The process involves pretreatment with aqueous Pd(II), followed by nucleation of ...
