A stick-slip/inchworm hybrid rotary piezomotor based on a symmetric triangular driving mechanism, which can simultaneously achieve the benefits of both stick-slip and inchworm motors, was reported in this letter. It is based on the principle of stick-slip ...

The intrinsic characteristic of a permanent magnet synchronous motor is defined by its internal dimensions, its material properties, as well as the power supply used in conjunction with the motor. When an extended operating range is desired but the electro ...

This research work has been triggered by an industrial project aimed at modelling and manufacturing a small-scale very high speed motor. Very high speed electrical motors offer the main advantage of reducing the size of a system. Indeed, at constant output ...

The current framework of high penetration of intermittent energy sources requires variable-speed pumped hydro storage power plants (PHSPs) to provide grid support functions, which are, in this case, achieved through two technologies: doubly-fed induction m ...

Large horsepower induction motors play a critical role as industrial drives in production facilities. The operational safety of distribution networks during the starting transients of these motor loads is a critical concern for the operators. In this paper ...

Large horsepower induction motors play a critical role in the operation of industrial facilities. In this respect, the distribution network operators dedicate a high priority to the operational safety of these motor loads. In this paper, the induction moto ...

Material costs and novel applications have directed research interests towards miniaturized, faster rotatory electric drives. The challenges of miniaturization have made magnetic bearings more attractive, which are naturally suited for high speeds and virt ...

In the last decade, the massive penetration of Distributed Generators (DGs) has brought significant technical challenges to all the aspects related to the planning and operation of distribution networks. Thus, smart grid concept has evolved as a new operat ...

Vacuum circuit breakers (VCBs) are widely used for medium voltage applications when low maintenance, long operating life, and large number of allowable switching cycles are required. The accurate estimation of the transient recovery voltages (TRVs) associa ...

To understand neural circuits that control limbs, one must measure their activity during behavior. Until now this goal has been challenging, because limb premotor and motor circuits have been largely inaccessible for large-scale recordings in intact, movin ...

In this work, we present a novel technique to locate partial discharge (PD) sources based on the concept of time reversal. The localization of the PD sources is of interest for numerous applications, including the monitoring of power transformers, Gas Insu ...

Truck engine waste heat recovery (WHR) systems have been investigated for many years. Among them, organic Rankine cycle (ORC) systems show the highest potential, but still lack efficient small-scale expansion devices, in practice. Proposed expanders are of ...

High power variable speed drives play a major role in many industrial applications. At the moment, these high power loads are supplied by the source (grid/generator) through the state-of-the-art MVAC power distribution network. The voltage levels, in these ...
