Solid-state electrolytes, particularly polymer/ceramic composite electrolytes, are emerging as promising candidates for lithium-ion batteries due to their high ionic conductivity and mechanical flexibility. The interfaces that arise between the inorganic a ...

In the field of electrochemical CO2 reduction, both continuum models and molecular dynamics (MD) models have been used to understand the electric double layer (EDL). MD often focuses on the region within a few nm of the electrode, while continuum models ca ...

Advanced battery electrodes require a cautious design of microscale particles with built-in nanoscale features to exploit the advantages of both micro- and nano-particles relative to their performance attributes. Herein, the dynamic behavior of nanosized S ...

Precipitation of (bi)carbonate salts during the electrochemical CO2 reduction (CO2RR) has been identified as a major cause of degradation and one of the main challenges to be overcome before implementing this technology on the industrial scale. Recently, t ...

Lithium ortho-thiophosphate (Li3PS4) has emerged as a promising candidate for solid-state electrolyte batteries, thanks to its highly conductive phases, cheap components, and large electrochemical stability range. Nonetheless, the microscopic mechanisms of ...

The Poisson-Nernst-Planck equations have been used to model species transport in electrochemical CO2 reduction, where the surface charge boundary condition accounts for the potential drop across the Stern layer. A direct comparison of the published models ...

Fluorination of solvents, useful for non-aqueous lithium-based batteries, improves the electrochemical stability but decreases the ionic conductivity. Here, the authors report a targeted functionalization of an ether solvent to balance the electrolyte ioni ...

The solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is a key component of a lithium-ion battery forming during the first few dischage/charge cycles at the interface between the anode and the electrolyte. The SEI passivates the anode-electrolyte interface by inhibiting ...

Next-generation implantable computational devices require long-term-stable electronic components capable of operating in, and interacting with, electrolytic surroundings without being damaged. Organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) emerged as fitting ...

The present invention concerns an electrolysis system for high temperature electrolysis including a plurality of flow-based electrolysis units configured to receive an electrolyte solution and to perform electrolysis to provide a first output gas and a sec ...

While the static structure of aqueous electrolytes has been studied for decades, their dynamic microscopic structure remains unresolved yet critical in many areas. We report a comparative study of dc and ac (1 Hz to 20 GHz) conductivity data of weak and st ...

The intrinsic stability of the 5 V LiCoPO4-LiCo2P3O10 thin-film (carbon-free) cathode material coated with MoO3 thin layer is studied using a comprehensive synchrotron electron spectroscopy in situ approach combined with firstprinciple calculations. The at ...

A model for the electrical double layer at solid-state electrochemical interfaces is reported, shedding some light on the design and optimization of future all-solid-state Li-ion batteries. ...

Double emulsions, such as water-in-oil-in-water droplets, are important material platforms for conducting fundamental research and for technological applications. To date, well-defined double-emulsion droplets consisting of a single water core and a thin o ...

The water-in-salt approach has expanded the electrochemical stability window of aqueous electrolytes, enabling novel aqueous batteries with relatively high cell voltages and energy densities. However, the stability of these electrolytes tends to be overest ...

Lithium-ion batteries are widely implemented as energy storage devices due to their high energy density and low cost. They enabled modern portable electronics and electric ve-hicles, and are key to manage the integration of intermittent renewable electrici ...

In an electrochemical reactor (R) for producing oxygen and hydrogen by means of electrolysis of an electrolyte (16), wherein the electrochemical reactor (R) comprises a first electrode set (S) and wherein the first electrode set (S) comprises a first elect ...

The electrodeposition (ED) of stainless steel (SS) -like FeCrNi alloys for miniaturised devices is appealing for bio-medicine as it would allow combining excellent material properties (e.g. corrosion resistance, hardness, bio-compatibility) at low-cost. Ho ...

Semitransparent dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) are appealing as aesthetically pleasing and colorful see-through photovoltaics. Green semitransparent DSCs have been presented, but the best ones rely on green zinc porphyrin photosensitizers and high volat ...

Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2RR) is promoted by ionic liquid (IL) co-catalysts, and several mechanisms have been proposed to explain their role. Due to the complexity of the CO2RR and the limited number of active IL co-catalysts, a conse ...
