Nanopores are nanometer-sized holes that were initially proposed for DNA sequencing. Several years ago sequencing was made possible with biological nanopores. However, solid-state nanopores have plenty of advantages to offer compared to their biological co ...

Electrodeposition of stainless steel-like materials such as FeCrNi alloy into micro- and nanotemplates provides a sustainable framework for creating biomedical-oriented micro- and nanocomponents with outstanding characteristics. While Cr(III)-based electro ...

Motivated to advance the renewable energy production and diversify the technologies for storable energy carriers, my work is concentrated on the characterization and the optimization of electrode morphologies applicable in photoelectrochemical water-splitt ...

Fast recombination of electrons from semiconductors with the oxidized redox species in the electrolyte represents a major bottleneck in the improvement of ZnO-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). While processes at the semiconductor-electrolyte interf ...

The temperature dependence of the femtosecond elastic second harmonic scattering (fs-ESHS) response of bulk light and heavy water and their electrolyte solutions is presented. We observe clear temperature dependent changes in the hydrogen (H)-bond network ...

Continuum electrolyte models represent a practical tool to account for the presence of the diffuse layer at electrochemical interfaces. However, despite the increasing popularity of these in the field of materials science, it remains unclear which features ...

Due to its high sensitivity to corrosion, the use of Si in direct photoelectrochemical (PEC) water-splitting systems that convert solar energy into chemical fuels has been greatly limited. Therefore, the development of low-cost materials resistant to corro ...

In a battery system, an electrochemical cell has a first compartment containing a positive electrolyte with an electrode 2 at least partially immersed in the positive electrolyte containing the first redox active material, forming a positive half cell. A s ...

The electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide is usually studied in aqueous solutions under ambient conditions. However, the main disadvantages of this method are high hydrogen evolution and low faradaic efficiencies of carbon-based products. Supercritic ...

The electrochemical water splitting reaction can convert renewable electricity into clean hydrogen fuel. The efficiency of water splitting is limited to a large extent by the sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Numerous transition metal oxides have b ...

Electrochemical liquid cell transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is a unique technique for probing nanocatalyst behavior during operation for a range of different electrocatalytic processes, including hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen evolution r ...

The unique structure and dynamics of the water hydrogen (H)-bond network enable a multitude of structures and chemical reactions in both bulk solutions and at interfaces. The underlying molecular interactions between water and dissolved electrolytes, organ ...

Long-range ion induced water-water correlations were recently observed in femtosecond elastic second harmonic scattering experiments of electrolyte solutions. To further the qualitative understanding of these correlations, we derive an analytical expressio ...

Wearable systems embodied as patches could offer noninvasive and real-time solutions for monitoring of biomarkers in human sweat as an alternative to blood testing, with applications in personalized and preventive healthcare. Sweat is considered to be a bi ...
