This paper is concerned with frequency domain theory for functional time series, which are temporally dependent sequences of functions in a Hilbert space. We consider a variance decomposition, which is more suitable for such a data structure than the varia ...

Programmable photonics promise a plethora of optical functions while at the same time reducing the time and costs of photonic integrated circuit (PIC) development. One primary bottleneck for development of these systems is the difficulty in increasing comp ...

Even at rest, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data displays exquisitely complex temporal dynamics. Here, we deployed a time-frequency analysis to track the modulus of fMRI signals over time, across space (a set of 341 brain areas) and frequenc ...

The goal of this paper is to evaluate the supply of sugarcane to mills and also the supply of green harvesting residues to second-generation ethanol plants under three different strategies: chopping, baling and integral harvesting. A dynamic model was deve ...

It has been shown analytically that Peregrine solitons emerge locally from a universal mechanism in the so-called semiclassical limit of the one-dimensional focusing nonlinear Schrodinger equation. Experimentally, this limit corresponds to the strongly non ...

First generation ethanol (1G) contributes to the majority of the ethanol produced worldwide, predominantly centered on corn and sugarcane. Nevertheless, several issues are regularly highlighted concerning the long-term sustainability of this technology, in ...

Many engineering fields rely on frequency-domain dynamical systems for the mathematical modeling of physical (electrical/mechanical/etc.) structures. With the growing need for more accurate and reliable results, the computational burden incurred by frequen ...

In this study, we apply interferometric microscopy to study the phase, alongside the intensity, of the light field transmitted through a wide variety of samples. Additionally, we conduct those interferometric measurements at different wavelengths within th ...

Experimental methods provide important advantages for advancing academic understanding of entrepreneurship. Yet, the complex and comingled relationships between some of entrepreneurship's key characteristics pose thorny methodological challenges to entrepr ...

Temporal modulation of components of electromagnetic systems provides an exceptional opportunity to engineer the response of those systems in a desired fashion, both in the time and frequency domains. For engineering time-modulated systems, one needs to th ...

A new robust controller design method that satisfies the H-infinity criterion is developed for linear time-invariant single-input single-output (SISO) systems. A data-driven approach is implemented in order to avoid the unmodeled dynamics associated with p ...

Lignocellulose-based biofuels are of major importance to mitigate the impact of international traffic and transport on climate change while sustaining agricultural land for food supply. Highly integrated systems like consolidated bioprocessing (CBP), where ...

We propose an extensive discussion on the homogenization and scattering analysis of the second-order nonlinear metasurfaces. Our developments are based on the generalized sheet transition conditions (GSTCs) that are used to model the electromagnetic respon ...

The classical electromagnetic time reversal (EMTR) fault location method in power systems can be time consuming, especially when a high location accuracy is desired. To cope with this issue, the concept of EMTR in mismatched media has recently been introdu ...

Cloaking via transformation optics was introduced by Pendry, Schurig, and Smith for the Maxwell system and Leonhardt in the geometric optics setting. They used a singular change of variables which blows up a point into a cloaked region. The same transforma ...

Stimulated Brillouin scattering is well-known for providing distributed measurements in the field of optical fiber sensing. For the conventional backward stimulated Brillouin scattering, the sensing capability is nevertheless limited to temperature and mec ...

Time-energy entangled photon pairs are fundamental resources for quantum communication protocols since they are robust against environmental fluctuations in optical fiber networks. Pair sources based on spontaneous four-wave mixing in silicon microring res ...

A method for performing synchrophasor estimation of an input signal, whereby the input signal is a sinusoidal power system voltage or current signal, comprising: a. Periodic sampling of a continuous time-domain waveform, consisting of a power system voltag ...

A technique to measure the local spectrum of forward stimulated Brillouin scattering (FSBS) along a standard optical fiber is proposed. The local acoustic impedance of surrounding material is retrieved from the measured FSBS resonance linewidth. ...

Objective: In this paper, a new vibrational modal analysis technique was developed for intraoperative cementless prosthesis fixation evaluation upon hammering. Methods: An artificial bone (Sawbones)-prosthesis system was excited by sweeping of a sine signa ...
