Introduction Type C hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a decompensating event of chronic liver disease leading to severe motor and cognitive impairment. The progression of type C HE is associated with changes in brain metabolite concentrations measured by 1H m ...

Solving native structures of such large molecules, like biomolecules, is often challenging, particularly due to the potentially infinite number of non-covalent interactions with water. In this thesis, we report the use of cold ion gas-phase action spectros ...

Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is an atomic-level method to determine the chemical structure, 3D structure and dynamics of solids and semi-solids. This Primer summarizes the basic principles of NMR spectroscopy as applied to the ...

MR is a well-established technique routinely used in preclinical and clinical studies. This thesis focussed on the improvement of sensitivity of different methods in MR. Hyperpolarized 129Xe gas is used for studying pulmonary disease or cerebral perfusion ...

The defects present in metal halide perovskite are deleterious to both the performance and stability of photovoltaic devices. Consequently, there is an intense focus on developing defect mitigation strategies. Herein we report a facile strategy that employ ...

Solid-state NMR spectroscopy is a widely used method for investigating structural and electronic properties of inorganic materials, but its use is often limited by low sensitivity. Here, we show how solvent-generated dynamic nuclear polarization can be use ...

Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance under magic angle spinning (MAS) enhanced with dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) is a powerful approach to characterize many important classes of materials, allowing access to previously inaccessible structural and d ...

The first full protocol for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) crystallography (NMRX) using chemical shifts was developed a decade ago, and it combines experimental isotropic chemical shifts with crystal structure prediction (CSP) and with the calculation of ...

We report dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP)-enhanced magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR spectroscopy in viral capsids from HIV-1 and bacteriophage AP205. Viruses regulate their life cycles and infectivity through modulation of their structures and dynamics. W ...

Here, we show how dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) NMR spectroscopy experiments permit the atomic level structural characterization of loaded and empty lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). The LNPs used here were synthesized by the microfluidic mixing technique a ...

Nuclear spin hyperpolarization of C-13-labelled metabolites by dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization can enhance the NMR signals of metabolites by several orders of magnitude, which has enabled in vivo metabolic imaging by MRI. However, because of the s ...

We demonstrate quantum critical scaling for an S = 1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain compound Cu(C4H4N2)(NO3)(2) in a magnetic field around saturation, by analyzing previously reported magnetization [Y. Kono et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 114, 037202 (2015) ...

The disulfide bonds that form between two cysteine residues are important in defining and rigidifying the structures of proteins and peptides. In polypeptides containing multiple cysteine residues, disulfide isomerization can lead to multiple products with ...

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective and speedy method for decoupling of homonuclear couplings.SOLUTION: This invention concerns a method for high resolution NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) measurements comprising the application of excitation pu ...

The photochemical reactivity of osmocene in a biphasic water-organic solvent system has been investigated to probe its water splitting properties. The photoreduction of aqueous protons to hydrogen under anaerobic conditions induced by osmocene dissolved in ...

In solution-state NMR spectroscopy, dynamic processes can be probed provided the nuclear relaxation rate constant does not exceed the rate constant of the process. Phenomena occurring on a time scale longer than the spin-lattice relaxation time constant, T ...

New experiments are described for the determination of very slow diffusion constants by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) using long-lived (singlet) states. These experiments are suitable for molecules or conformations featuring a wide range of J-couplings. ...

Although labile protons that are exchanging rapidly with those of the solvent cannot be observed directly, their exchange rate constants can be determined by indirect detection of scalar-coupled neighboring nuclei. We have used heteronuclear NMR spectrosco ...

We report new results on the electron spin resonance of single walled carbon nanotubes, peapods and double walled carbon nanotubes. A small ESR line is present in well purified samples and its temperature dependence reveals a striking 'super-Curie' paramag ...

The temp. dependence of NMR relaxation rates was investigated for the backbone of 15N/13C labeled human ubiquitin in the temp. range of 20-50 DegC. The 15N autorelaxation rates give evidence that the potential energy functions for 15N-HN bonds are not quad ...
