In this Full Innovative Practice Paper, we present a teaching approach, based on service science, for integrating a business curriculum in the engineering educational program. Our approach is a composition of experiential learning, systems thinking, and se ...

We propose a novel fully-automated approach towards inducing multilingual taxonomies fromWikipedia. Given an English taxonomy, our approach first leverages the interlanguage links of Wikipedia to automatically construct training datasets for the is-a relat ...

We show that the finite time type II blow up solutions for the energy critical nonlinear wave equation

\Box u = -u^5

\R^{3+1}

constructed in \cite{KST}, \cite{KS1} are stable along a co-dimension one Lipschitz manifold of data perturbations in a ...

Authenticated Encryption (AE) is a symmetric key cryptographic primitive that ensures confidentiality and authenticity of processed messages at the same time. The research of AE as a primitive in its own right started in 2000. The security goals of AE wer ...

Revenue management systems rely on customer data, and are thus affected by the absence of registered demand that arises when a product is no longer available. In the present work, we review the uncensoring (or unconstraining) techniques that have been prop ...

In cuprates, a precursor state of superconductivity is speculated to exist above the critical temperature T-c. Here we show via a combination of far-infrared ellipsometry and ultrafast broadband optical spectroscopy that signatures of such a state can be o ...

The computational analysis of isomer- and conformer- dependent photochemistry of 1- and 2-naphthols and their microsolvated water clusters is motivated by their very different excited state reactivity. We present evidence that 1- and 2-naphthol follow dist ...

Substitutability and interchangeability in constraint satisfaction problems (CSPs) have been used as a basis for search heuristics, solution adaptation and abstraction techniques. In this paper, we consider how the same concepts can be extended to soft con ...

We used Cytochrome Oxidase Subunit 1 (COI) to assess the phylogenetic relationships and taxonomy of Nebela sensu stricto and similar taxa (Nebela group, Arcellinida) in order to clarify the taxonomic validity of morphological characters. The COI data not o ...

Untangling the relationships between morphology and phylogeny is key to building a reliable taxonomy, but is especially challenging for protists, where the existence of cryptic or pseudocryptic species makes finding relevant discriminant traits difficult. ...

This thesis describes methods to model the land use component of an urban system. Specifi- cally, it proposes methods to model and simulate the location choice of agents (households or firms) and the formation of prices for real estate goods in a city. The ...

In this thesis, we explore techniques for the development and verification of programs in a high-level, expressive, and safe programming language. Our programs can express problems over unbounded domains and over recursive and mutable data structures. We p ...

We present a visualization framework for exploring and analyzing data sets from biomechanical and neuromuscular simulations. These data sets describe versatile information related to the different stages of a motion analysis. In studying these data using a ...

Supply chains (SC) are complex systems in which human beings play a key role. Whereas human impact is often taken into account in simulation models in terms of physical flows (material handling, fabrication), it is far less the case in terms of information ...

We present a fully analytical, heuristic model the "Analytical Transport Network Model" for steady-state, diffusive, potential flow through a 3-D network. Employing a combination of graph theory, linear algebra, and geometry, the model explicitly relates a ...

In this Progress Report some recent trends and future perspectives towards the use of nanomaterials for smart food packaging and quality control of food are given. The examples and discussion are meant to illustrate the potential use of nanotechnology for ...
