We propose a local, non -intrusive model order reduction technique to accurately approximate the solution of coupled multi -component parametrized systems governed by partial differential equations. Our approach is based on the approximation of the boundar ...

This paper presents a first implementation of gradient, divergence, and particle tracing schemes for the EMC3 code, a stochastic 3D plasma fluid code widely employed for edge plasma and impurity transport modeling in tokamaks and stellarators. These scheme ...

The electrification of the transport sector is a key element in decarbonizing our societies. However, energy systems will have to cope with additional electricity demand due to the charging needs of electric vehicles (EVs) together with the integration of ...

Long global gyrokinetic turbulence simulations are particularly challenging in situations where the system deviates strongly from its initial state and when fluctuation levels are high, for example, in strong gradient regions. For particle-in-cell simulati ...

We consider the Dynamical Low Rank (DLR) approximation of random parabolic equations and propose a class of fully discrete numerical schemes. Similarly to the continuous DLR approximation, our schemes are shown to satisfy a discrete variational formulation ...

The analysis of nuclear reactors for performance and safety assessment benefits from the use of computational tools. In this context, this work aims at the development and application of a thermal-hydraulics methodology and related software that respond to ...

Truck engine waste heat recovery (WHR) systems have been investigated for many years. Among them, organic Rankine cycle (ORC) systems show the highest potential, but still lack efficient small-scale expansion devices, in practice. Proposed expanders are of ...

We implement an electromagnetic time reversal technique (EMTR) to locate lightning return strokes. The two-dimensional finite difference time domain is employed to simulate the EMTR process in both, the forward-time and the backward-time phases. Scatterers ...

The proper computation of the time evolution of the fracture front is the main challenge of three-dimensional (3D) hydraulic fracture growth simulation. We discuss explicit and implicit variants of a hydraulic fracture propagation scheme based on a level s ...

The calculation of the electronic structure of chemical systems, necessitates computationally expensive approximations to the time-independent electronic Schrödinger equation in order to yield static properties in good agreement with experimental results. ...

A local weighted discontinuous Galerkin gradient discretization method for solving elliptic equations is introduced. The local scheme is based on a coarse grid and successively improves the solution solving a sequence of local elliptic problems in high gra ...

The nonlocal nature of the fractional integral makes the numerical treatment of fractional dierential equations expensive in terms of computational eort and memory requirements. In this paper we propose a method to reduce these costs while controlling the ...

Today's quantum chemistry methods are extremely powerful but rely upon complex quantities such as the massively multidimensional wave function or even the simpler electron density. Consequently, chemical insight and a chemist's intuition are often lost in ...

This paper presents an active output feedback fault-tolerant model predictive control (MPC) scheme for systems with sensor faults. The proposed control scheme actively steers the system in order to prevent loss of observability caused by a sensor fault. To ...

Motivating workers to provide significant effort has been recognized as an important issue in crowdsourcing. It is important not only to compensate worker effort, but also to discourage low-quality workers from participating. Several proper incentive schem ...

Coverage criteria aim at satisfying test requirements and compute metrics values that quantify the adequacy of test suites at revealing defects in programs. Typically, a test requirement is a structural program element, and the coverage metric value repres ...

A two-hop channel is considered, in which the source wants to send information to the destination while keeping the information confidential from the relay. A novel lattice chain and compute-and-forward based scheme is proposed in which the destination pro ...

The usefulness of lattice codes is investigated for two-user Gaussian interference channels (IC). A coding scheme based on the compute-and-forward technique is shown to achieve the capacity region of the Gaussian IC under strong interference. The proposed ...

In a multistage secret sharing (MSSS) scheme, the authorised subsets of participants could recover a number of secrets in different stages. A one-stage multisecret sharing (OSMSS) scheme is a special case of MSSS schemes in which all the secrets are recove ...

Dispersed storage systems (DSSs) can represent an important near-term solution for supporting the operation and control of active distribution networks (ADNs). Indeed, they have the capability to support ADNs by providing ancillary services in addition to ...
