Modern energy systems are more and more based on integrated technologies in a world evolving towards increasing concerns not only for economics but also for environmental issues with a growing focus on resources and emissions. In parallel, information tech ...

With the energy transition and CO2 emissions reduction as a priority on the international policy agenda, governments worldwide are trying to engage the population in investing in renewable energies. In this paper, we study the role of information access an ...

Green hydrogen production via electrochemical water splitting is a promising approach for future sustainable energy and industry. Among the existing water electrolysis technologies, solid oxide steam electrolysis exhibits the highest electrical efficiency, ...

This work proposes a method for optimal planning (sizing and siting) energy storage systems (ESSs) in power distribution grids while considering the option of curtailing photo-voltaic (PV) generation. More specifically, for a given PV generation capacity t ...

Nanogenerators are a recently emerging technology which is able to cost-effectively harvest energy from renewable and clean energy sources at the micro/nano-scale. Their applications in the field of self-powered sensing systems and portable power supplying ...

Recognized as a powerful methodology for the evaluation of environmental burdens, life cycle assessment (LCA) must be performed with close-to-reality inputs to be robust and accurate. However, the necessary real-world data is hardly available at the design ...

A promising pathway to follow in order to reach sustainable development goals is an increased reliance on renewable sources of energy. The optimized use of these energy sources, however, requires the assessment of their potential supply, along with the dem ...

Our work explores the prospect of bringing the temporal production profile of solar photovoltaics (PV) into better correlation with typical electricity consumption patterns in the midlatitudes. To do so, we quantify the potential of three choices for PV in ...

In this paper, we consider an Internet of Electric Vehicles (IoEV) powered by heterogeneous charging facilities in the transportation network. In particular, we take into account the state-of-the-art vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging and renewable power gener ...

Urbanization and climate change induce many challenges for todayâ s cities. These challenges have to be faced by urban planners during complex planning processes that involve many stakeholders. Interactive computational approaches can provide assistance d ...

The integration of renewable energy technologies in the existing energy infrastructure plays a key role in improving the sustainability of cities. Due to the stochastic nature of some renewable energy sources, primarily wind and solar energy, direct integr ...

Modern ammonia production plants are equipped with efficient energy integration networks able to recover an important fraction of the enthalpy of reaction released by the exothermic chemical systems. However, to fully supply the exergy demands of the highl ...

It has been increasingly aware to the world today that reserves of fossil fuels are limited and their use has serious environmental side effects. Encouraged by this realization was the evolution of the use of cleaner alternative energy, among which Dye-sen ...

The Swiss Federal Office of Energy has published directives in order to limit the increase of electrical energy consumption to a maximum of 5% in 2010 in comparison with 2000. To reach this goal, clear measures have to be taken regarding the installation a ...
