The invention relates to a Method for operating a frequency agile tunable self-injection locking laser system being formed by a laser device coupled to at least one optical resonator, wherein a diode current of a laser diode of the laser device is controll ...

Bubbles generated with lasers in liquids under confinement have been investigated for their potential use as the driving mechanism for liquid micro-jets in various microfluidic devices, such as needle-free jet injectors. Here, we report on the study of bub ...

The present invention relates to an electrically tunable photonic resonator device for a component having a fast and flat actuation response, comprising: - At least one optical waveguide with an optical interface for coupling in laser light, - At least one ...

Optical-frequency combs, that is spectra of equidistant coherent optical lines, have revolutionized the precision measurements of time and frequency. In 2007 a new method to generate optical frequency combs was discovered. In contrast to conventional gener ...

This thesis presents results of a research on unidirectional isolator-free cavity lasers, exploiting thulium-doped fiber (TDF) as amplification medium and operating in \unit[2]{\mu m} wavelength range. For fibre ring resonator, an optical isolator should b ...

Lateral loss causes optical energy to leave the laser cavity in the transverse, lateral, direction, and is sometimes neglected to simplify the numerical simulations. However, in contrast to outcoupling and absorption losses, we show that the lateral loss c ...

We report on the epitaxial growth of high-quality core-shell nonpolar m-plane GaN/InAlN multiple quantum wells (MQWs) on the sidewall facets of c-oriented hexagonal GaN wires. Pseudomorphic growth without generation of threading dislocations has been estab ...

The paper presents a CMOS sensor array for the detection of speckle movements, for applications requiring accurate movement tracking of arbitrary surfaces. The array is made of eight sensors incorporating each a spatial comb filter with a pitch of 2.8μm so ...

A widely-tunable single-mode 1.3 mu m vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser structure incorporating a microelectromechanical system-tunable high-index-contrast subwavelength grating (HCG) mirror is suggested and numerically investigated. A linear tuning r ...

By means of an electron hole rate equation model we explain the phase dynamics of a quantum dot semiconductor optical amplifier and the appearance of different decay times observed in pump and probe experiments. The ultrafast hole relaxation leads to a fir ...

The authors report the realization of InGaN/GaN light emitting diodes (LEDs) with an electrical injection design suitable for vertical cavity surface emitting lasers. Controlled oxidation of an AlInN interlayer lattice matched to GaN allows confining the i ...

A photoacoustic multi-gas sensor using tuneable laser diodes in the near-infrared region is reported. An optimized resonant configuration based on an acoustic longitudinal mode is described. Automatic tracking of the acoustic resonance frequency using a pi ...

Fiber lasers are compact lightsources with high intrinsic beam quality and high efficiency. The lasing spectrum ranges from the blue to the near infrared and is achievable using fibers with different dopants and glass compositions. All-fiber lasers are cha ...

Hill et al. reported for the first time in 1978 the formation of refractive-index gratings in germanium doped silica fibers exposed to UV laser radiation. Since then many studies have been performed on fiber gratings and a widespread range of applications ...
