Nanoparticle manipulation requires careful analysis of the forces at play. Unfortunately, traditional force measurement techniques based on the particle velocity do not provide sufficient resolution, while balancing approaches involving counteracting force ...

TiO2 quantum dot (QD) size nanoparticle colloids have shown tremendous photochromic response. Here we show that the of the photochromic response of TiO2 QDs can be further enhanced by doping. Our synthesis approach allows to reach high nominal doping level ...

Optical tweezers are devices that can manipulate nano- and microparticles using a laser. The principle of optical tweezers is to apply a force to an object using the momentum of light. This force is very small, but it is sufficient to move things in the mi ...

This work aims to study the structural, optical, and photocatalytic properties of ZrO2 nanotubes (NTs) that have been synthesized using the electrochemical anodization method. The structural and morphological characteristics of unannealed and annealed (400 ...

The compositional and structural diversity of bimetallic nanocrystals (NCs) provides a superior tunability of their physico-chemical properties, making them attractive for a variety of applications, including sensing and catalysis. Nevertheless, the manipu ...

The large number of interactions in nanoscale systems leads to the emergence of complex behavior. Understanding such complexity requires atomic-resolution observations with a time resolution that is high enough to match the characteristic timescale of the ...

Here we present a method to extract thermodynamic quantities for nanoparticle dispersions in solvents. The method is based on the study of tomograms obtained from cryogenic electron tomography (cryoET). The approach is demonstrated for gold nanoparticles ( ...

Immense field enhancement and nanoscale confinement of light are possible within nanoparticle-on-mirror (NPoM) plasmonic resonators, which enable novel optically activated physical and chemical phenomena and render these nanocavities greatly sensitive to m ...

Nanomaterials and nanoparticles are nowadays used in a wide range of applications; from sunscreens, paint and food industry to catalytic processes, lighting, TV's and displays, their presence is percolating in our daily life. New applications rise every da ...

During the last decades, intensive efforts have been applied to tackle the enormous emissions of CO2 into atmosphere. These efforts include not only developing efficient carbon capture techniques, but also the introduction of new ways to transform the capt ...

Dielectric nanoresona tors uniquely support both magnetic and electric resonances across a wide wavelength range. They are thus being exploited in a growing number of groundbreaking applications. In particular, they have been recently suggested as promisin ...

Metal nanoparticles are frequently employed for the colorimetric detection of specific target molecules using an aggregation-induced shift of the localized surface plasmon resonance. However, metal nanoparticles dispersed in bulk solutions are prone to be ...

Organic ligands are used in homogeneous catalysis to tune the metal center reactivity; in contrast, clean surfaces are usually preferred in heterogeneous catalysis. Herein, we demonstrate the potential of a molecular chemistry approach to develop efficient ...

N-Enoxyimides have become attractive substrates for novel catalytic transformations, yet their tedious multi-step synthesis hampers full exploitation of their synthetic potential. We report a gold(I)-catalyzed protocol to access N-enoxyimides from simple a ...

A carbon solution composed of nanoparticles was used in experiments designed to explore nanoparticle transport characteristics within the hyporheic zone of a riverbed. Experiments and numerical simulations demonstrated that nanoparticle transport in the hy ...

In catalysis science stability is as crucial as activity and selectivity. Understanding the degradation pathways occurring during operation and developing mitigation strategies will eventually improve catalyst design, thus facilitating the translation of b ...

Tuning the magnetic behavior of nanoparticles via the control of their features has always been challenging because these features are mostly intertwined. In the last years, a novel synthetic approach based on cation-exchange has been reported, and one of ...

Over the past decades, there has been a dramatic change in the types and amounts of metal ions in the biosphere, since we have introduced huge amount of metal waste into our environment in the course of industrialization of our society. Most of the metal c ...

The use of metal oxide overcoats over supported nanoparticle catalysts has recently led to impressive improvements in catalyst stability and selectivity. The deposition of alumina is especially important for renewable catalysis due to its robustness in liq ...

Colloid stability is of high importance in a multitude of fields ranging from food science to biotechnology. There is strong interest in studying the stability of small particles (of a size of a few nanometres) with complex surface structures, that make th ...
