To constrain cosmological models beyond ACDM, the development of the Euclid analysis pipeline requires simulations that capture the non-linear phenomenology of such models. We present an overview of numerical methods and N-body simulation codes developed t ...

Sign Language conveys information through multiple channels composed of manual (handshape, hand movement) and non-manual (facial expression, mouthing, body posture) components. Sign language assessment involves giving granular feedback to a learner, in ter ...

The control of movement and orientation of gas-phase molecules has become the focus of many research areas in molecular physics. Here, ND3 molecules are polarized in a segmented, curved electrostatic guide and adiabatically aligned inside a rotatable mass ...

Nature is abundant in material platforms with anisotropic permittivities arising from symmetry reduction that feature a variety of extraordinary optical effects. Principal optical axes are essential characteristics for these effects that define light-matte ...

Photonics integrated circuits are a promising solution for the growing demands of data transmission and future system-on-chip technologies. Within this context, nonlinear optical interactions offer unique opportunities for all-optical processing, sampling, ...

We demonstrate the use of both pixelated differential phase contrast (DPC) scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and off-axis electron holography (EH) for the measurement of electric fields and assess the advantages and limitations of each techn ...

Recent decades have seen significant advancements in integrated photonics, driven by improvements in nanofabrication technology. This field has been developed from integrated semiconductor lasers and low-loss waveguides to optical modulators, enabling the ...

A dual-shot technique based on the field basis addition of two statistically independent speckle patterns is developed to recover an input polarization through a scattering layer. It is proposed theoretically, and demonstrated both numerically and experime ...

This paper presents the new 2D electrostatic particle -in -cell code FENNECS developed to study the formation of magnetized non -neutral plasmas in geometries with azimuthal symmetry. This code has been developed in the domain of gyrotron electron gun desi ...

We study the constraints imposed on the electromagnetic response of general media by microcausality (commutators of local fields vanish outside the light cone) and positivity of the imaginary parts (the medium can only absorb energy from the external field ...

Nonlinear optical frequency conversion is one of the driving research areas in photonics. Its quasi instantaneous response and the promise of low power consumption in integrated structures could cover the demand for fast signal processing with minimal ener ...

Two-dimensional (2D) hexagonal lattices of Cu disks are shown to induce orientation-dependent magnonic crystal (MC) modes for propagating forward volume spin waves in a single-crystal yttrium iron garnet (YIG) film. The width and depth of the magnonic band ...

The optical domain presents potential avenues for enhancing both computing and communication due to its inherent properties of bandwidth, parallelism, and energy efficiency. This research focuses on harnessing 3-Dimensional (3D) diffractive optics for nove ...

A simplified model describing the polarisation characteristics of spun fibres is proposed, aiming at determining how close to a circularly birefringent medium such a fibre is. This is of crucial importance regarding the interest of such a medium for magnet ...

The Berry curvature dipole (BCD) is a key parameter that describes the geometric nature of energy bands in solids. It defines the dipole-like distribution of Berry curvature in the band structure and plays a key role in emergent nonlinear phenomena. The th ...

Ultrafast ultrasound imaging, characterized by high frame rates, generates low-quality images. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have demonstrated great potential to enhance image quality without compromising the frame rate. However, CNNs have been most ...

Piezoelectrics play a significant role in modern electronics and electric devices. Thermal or mechanical stress on such materials induces a change in polarization generating an electric response, which is the sole effect of why they are so interesting. How ...

The vibrational response of solid materials and structural components is substantially governed by their mechanical and geometrical properties. Low-frequency vibrations and modal frequencies are sensitive to global geometrical deviations, while high-freque ...

In this thesis, we propose and analyze novel numerical algorithms for solving three different high-dimensional problems involving tensors. The commonality of these problems is that the tensors can potentially be well approximated in low-rank formats. Ident ...

The optical characterization of metasurfaces and nanostructures that alter the polarization of light is tricky and can lead to unphysical results, such as reflectance beyond unity. We track the origin of such pitfalls to the response of some typical optica ...
