A one-pot, three-component synthesis of polysubstituted furo[2,3-c] quinoline 1 was developed based on the new reactivity profile of alpha-(4-nitrophenyl)-alpha-isocyanoacetates. Simply mixing aldehydes 2, ortho-alkynylanilines 3, and alpha-(4-nitrophenyl) ...

All rights reserved.Introduction Gait and mobility impairment are pivotal signs of parkinsonism, and they are particularly severe in atypical parkinsonian disorders including multiple system atrophy (MSA) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). A pilot s ...

We show with DFT calculations that hydroxyl formation on anatase TiO2 from dissociation of water molecules is strongly enhanced by a nanostructured state of the oxide, involving the occurrence of complexes consisting of undercoordinated 4-fold Ti-2-fold O ...

Dual photoredox−transition-metal catalysis has emerged as a powerful tool for the development of chemical transformations. However, its application in the selective difunctionalization of 1,3-dienes remains essentially unexploited. By the synergistic actio ...

Background: Disturbances of glycemic control and large glycemic variability have been associated with increased risk of type 2 diabetes in the general population as well as complications in people with diabetes. Long-term health benefits of physical activi ...

Aim: The worldwide increase in obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) represents a major health challenge. Chronically altered lipids induced by obesity further promote the development of T2D, and the accumulation of toxic lipid metabolites in serum and periphe ...

It is possible to construct Levy white noises as generalized random processes in the sense of Gel'fand and Vilenkin, or as an independently scattered random measures introduced by Rajput and Rosinski. In this article, we unify those two approaches by exten ...

Since myocardial fibers drive the electric signal propagation throughout the myocardium, accurately modeling their arrangement is essential for simulating heart electrophysiology (EP). Rule-Based-Methods (RBMs) represent a commonly used strategy to include ...

Background Impaired heart rate variability (HRV) is associated with increased mortality in sinus rhythm. However, HRV has not been systematically assessed in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). We hypothesized that parameters of HRV may be predictive o ...

The difficulty of obtaining annotations to build training databases still slows down the adoption of recent deep learning approaches for biomedical image analysis. In this paper, we show that we can train a Deep Net to perform 3D volumetric delineation giv ...

The failure of frictional interfaces - the process of frictional rupture - is widely assumed to feature crack-like properties, with far-reaching implications for various disciplines, ranging from engineering tribology to earthquake physics. An important co ...

Predictive gait simulations currently do not account for environmental or internal noise. We describe a method to solve predictive simulations of human movements in a stochastic environment using a collocation method. The optimization is performed over mul ...

Optimized protocols for the synthesis of diazolyl alpha,alpha-difluoroacetates via deoxofluorination of the corresponding glyoxylates with Morph-DAST are described. The method allowed the preparation of the title fluoridated building blocks in 73-96 % yiel ...

Recent studies showed that the carotid sinus nerve (CSN) and the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) are overactivated in type 2 diabetes and that restoring the correct CSN neural activity can re-establish the proper metabolism. However, a robust characteriza ...

Selenium (mainly in the forms of selenite (Se(IV)) and selenate (Se(VI)) is a regulated drinking water contaminant, but there is little information on the kinetics and mechanisms of Se(IV) oxidation during water treatment. Species-specific and apparent sec ...

Non-coding RNAs associate with proteins to form ribonucleoproteins (RNPs), such as ribosome, box C/D snoRNPs, H/ACA snoRNPs, ribonuclease P, telomerase and spliceosome to ensure cell viability. The assembly of these RNA-protein complexes relies on the abil ...

This work presents a kinetic analysis of the exogenous photo-induced disinfection of E. coli in natural waters. Herein, the inactivation of bacteria by light and photo-generated transient species, i.e., hydroxyl radical (HO center dot), excited triplet sta ...
