In preparation for error field (EF) identification experiments in ITER, a series of experiments have been conducted at JET to test the portability of the non-disruptive compass scan, a method originally designed and tested in DIII-D (Paz-Soldan et al 2022 ...

The work presented in this thesis lies at the intersection of Machine Learning (ML) and control theory. The first part is dedicated to the design of Deep Neural Network (DNN) architectures with specific numerical properties, inspired by dynamical systems m ...

The development of hemoglobin (Hb)-based oxygen carriers (HBOCs) holds a lot of potential to overcome important drawbacks of donor blood such as a short shelf life or the potential risk of infection. However, a crucial limitation of current HBOCs is the au ...

The degradation kinetics and mechanisms of various types of recalcitrant organic pollutants (ROPs) by a novel biochar-CuO (B-CuO)/periodate (PI) system have been deeply investigated in the present study. More precisely, the study aimed to explore the signi ...

Oxygen is ubiquitous in nature and it plays a key role in several biological processes, such as cellular respiration and food deterioration, to name a few. Currently, reversible and non-destructive oxygen sensing is usually performed with sensors produced ...

This letter proposes a parallelizable algorithm for linear-quadratic model predictive control (MPC) problems with state and input constraints. The algorithm itself is based on a parallel MPC scheme that has originally been designed for systems with input c ...

Introduction:Preterm infants born before 28 weeks of gestation are at high risk of neurodevelopmental impairment in later life. Cerebral white and gray matter injury is associated with adverse outcomes. High oxygen levels, often unavoidable in neonatal int ...

Background Our goal was to evaluate the performance of a new wearable arm located pulse oximeter. Methods Twelve volunteers were monitored with three pulse oximeters and underwent desaturation to 70% SaO(2). We compared the accuracy of SpO(2) reading from ...

Tim-domain near-infrared optical tomography (TD NIROT) techniques based on diffuse light were gaining performance over the last years. They are capable of imaging tissue at several centimeters depth and reveal clinically relevant information, such as tissu ...

The generation of hydroxyl radicals ((OH)-O-center dot) during the chlorination of air saturated solutions of different hydroxyphenols (hydroquinone, resorcinol, catechol, gallic and tannic acids) at pH 7 has been determined by the formation of phenol (in ...

Pulmonary hypertension is a hemodynamic disorder defined by an abnormal elevation of pulmonary artery pressure (PAP). Current options for measuring PAP are limited in clinical practice. The aim of this study was to evaluate if electrical impedance tomograp ...

Water splitting is one of the cleanest ways to store energy. The production of hydrogen and oxygen gases can be utilized in fuel cells to generate electricity, power, and heat. In the water splitting process, the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), taking pla ...

This work reports experimental results of the quantitative determination of oxygen and band gap measurement in the TiNx electrodes in planar TiNx top/La:HfO2/TiNx bottom MIM stacks obtained by plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition on SiO2. Methodological ...

Burtscher, Martin, Michael Philadelphy, Hannes Gatterer, Johannes Burtscher, Martin Faulhaber, Werner Nachbauer, and Rudolf Likar. Physiological responses in humans acutely exposed to high altitude (3480 m): Minute ventilation and oxygenation are predictiv ...

Several lines of research point to a key role of low oxygen supply (hypoxia) in Parkinson's disease pathogenesis. Although severe hypoxia is detrimental for the brain, physiological adaptations to mild hypoxia are neuroprotective. Herein we discuss, how ne ...

The present research aims at understanding the mass transfer of air into water in a reversible pump turbine operating in condenser mode. In particular, the diffusion of oxygen through the water free-surface both in the vaneless gap between the impeller bla ...

Platinum (Pt) is a key material in automotive catalytic converters used to clean up the exhaust of the combustion engine. Pt particles in a ceramic matrix serve as an oxidation catalyst to eliminate toxic carbon monoxide (CO) and unburned hydrocarbons (CxH ...

Detection of tissue and cell oxygenation is of high importance in fundamental biological and in many medical applications, particularly for monitoring dysfunction in the early stages of cancer. Measurements of the luminescence lifetimes of molecular probes ...

Lithium-excess cation-disordered rock-salt oxides (DRXs) are investigated intensively as cathode materials for future lithium-ion batteries combining cationic and anionic redox reactions. However, the lattice oxygen redox can cause severe oxygen release re ...

paper studies exploiting action-level learning (imitation) in the optimal control problem context. Cost functions defined by the optimal control methods are similar to the goal-level learning (emulation) in animals. However, imitating the robot's or others ...
