The Terahertz (THz) frequency domain lies between the realms of microwave and optics, with frequencies conventionally spanning the 0.1-10 THz spectral range [1]. Many commercially-available THz systems routinely exploits optical down/up conversion mechanis ...

Coherent light sources emitting in the terahertz range are highly sought after for fundamental research and applications. Terahertz lasers rely on achieving population inversion. We demonstrate the generation of terahertz radiation using nitrogen-vacancy c ...

Nanowire-based terahertz photoconductive receivers offer many advantages over the existing bulk-based receivers, such as the capability of measuring the full terahertz polarization state and integrating into micro/nano-systems. However, their detection per ...

Isolated attosecond pulses from an X-ray free-electron laser are in high demand for attosecond science, which enables the probing of electron dynamics by X-ray nonlinear spectroscopy and single-particle imaging. The aim of this thesis is to simulate attos ...

This talk will highlight opportunities for terahertz science and technology from nonlinear integrated photonic circuits by exploring waveguides, resonators and terahertz antennas. Their present and future applications in metrology, emission and waveform co ...

We demonstrate tunable dispersion compensation of femtosecond pulses at telecom wavelengths for broadband Terahertz generation in 7.5-meter fiber link using a Silicon prism pair. The prism pair enhances the amplitude of the THz E-field in InGaAs photocondu ...

In this work, we propose a numerical approach based on forward coupled mode modeling to simultaneously evaluate second- and third-order nonlinearities inside a dispersion-engineered waveguide towards the goal of generating broadband terahertz (THz) radiati ...

In this work, we report on the implementation of a time-domain integrator device operating on arbitrary broadband Terahertz (THz) pulses. This analog signal-processing functionality is implemented by employing a two-wire waveguide (TWWG) variant, based on ...

The ultrafast dynamics of charge carriers in solids plays a pivotal role in emerging optoelectronics, photonics, energy harvesting, and quantum technology applications. However, the investigation and direct visualization of such nonequilibrium phenomena re ...

Bridging the "terahertz gap" relies upon synthesizing arbitrary waveforms in the terahertz domain enabling applications that require both narrow band sources for sensing and few-cycle drives for classical and quantum objects. However, realization of custom ...

In this work, we show the coherent reconstruction of terahertz (THz) transients in thin-film lithium niobate integrated photonics circuits. Our devices modulate the intensity of a probe beam guided through a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) structure, und ...

Dense micron-sized electron plasmas, such as those generated upon irradiation of nanostructured metallic surfaces by intense femtosecond laser pulses, constitute a rich playground to study light-matter interactions, many-body phenomena, and out-of-equilibr ...

Non-linear materials are cornerstones of modern optics and electronics. Strong dependence on the intrinsic properties of particular materials, however, inhibits the at-will extension of demanding non-linear effects, especially those second-order ones, to w ...

The evolution of electronics has largely relied on downscaling to meet the continuous needs for faster and highly integrated devices(1). As the channel length is reduced, however, classic electronic devices face fundamental issues that hinder exploiting ma ...

There is a never-ending push for electronic systems to provide faster operation speeds, higher energy efficiencies, and higher power capabilities at smaller scales. These requirements are apparent in different areas of electronics, from radiofrequency (RF) ...

Understanding and actively controlling the spatiotemporal dynamics of nonequilibrium electron clouds is fundamental for the design of light and electron sources, high power electronic devices, and plasma-based applications. However, electron clouds evolve ...

Carrier-envelope phase (CEP) detection of ultrashort optical pulses and low-energy waveform field sampling have recently been demonstrated using direct time-domain methods that exploit optical-field photoemission from plasmonic nanoantennas. These devices ...

Due to a significant influence of strontium (Sr) on bone regeneration, Sr substituted beta-tricalcium phosphate (Sr-TCP) cement is prepared and investigated by short- and long-term time-resolved techniques. For short-term investigations, energy-dispersive ...

n-linear impedance characteristics of VO2 offer solutions to highly sensitive radio-frequency (RF), millimeterwave (mm-wave), and terahertz (THz) detectors. We demonstrate high-speed broadband sensibility of miniaturized VO2 switches by utilizing the nonli ...

The insulating rare-earth magnet LiY1-xHoxF4 has received great attention because a laboratory field applied perpendicular to its crystallographic c axis converts the low-energy electronic spin Hamiltonian into the (dilute) transverse field Ising model. Th ...
