CO2 conversion plays a vital role in addressing climate change by cutting greenhouse gas emissions and promoting a circular carbon economy. Rather than releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, carbon dioxide recycling technologies allows transformatio ...

Fuel cells are considered one of the most efficient and environmental-friendly technologies available for converting chemical energy into electricity and heat, and considered a key technology to close the hydrogen cycle. In particular, combined heat and po ...

Silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cells have recently reached power conversion efficiencies above 25% with various device architectures and with industrial size (>200 cm(2)) wafers. Yet, for an accurate assessment of the efficiency potential and further d ...

CO2 abatement strategies are crucial in any industrial cluster. In post-combustion capture solutions, the highenergy consumption and the cost associated with the operation are the main drawbacks. In this work, a chemical absorption system using a 30% MEA s ...

Photo-electrochemical production of solar fuels from carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight is an appealing approach. Nevertheless, it remains challenging to scale despite encouraging demonstrations at low power input. Higher current densities require notable ...

The recent targets by different countries to stop the sales or registrations of internal combustion engines (ICE) have led to the further development of battery and fuel cell technologies to provide power for different applications. The main aim of this st ...

Reversible solid oxide cells (rSOC) can convert excess electricity to valuable fuels in electrolysis cell mode (SOEC) and reverse the reaction in fuel cell mode (SOFC). In this work, a five - cell rSOC short stack, integrating fuel electrode (Ni-YSZ) suppo ...

The use of oxygen-enriched air (OEA) is an important strategy for reducing process cost and CO2 emissions in several industrial processes. Membrane-based processes, attributing to their high energy efficiency, are promising alternatives to cryogenic distil ...

During electrochemical carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction on copper electrodes in an aqueous electrolyte, one of the key challenges is the competition between hydrogen evolution and CO2 reduction, especially under large current density. Here, micro-electrodes ...

In the present investigation, calcium oxide solid nanocatalyst derived from the egg shell and Nannochloropsis salina were used for the production of biodiesel. The morphological characteristics and functional groups of synthesized nanocatalyst was characte ...

In recent years, population aging and the consequent higher incidence of noncommunicable diseases, have increased the need for long-term health monitoring. Moreover, as healthcare cost is projected to grow substantially by 2030 in OECD countries, the deman ...

Energy efficiency is critical in battery-driven devices, and designing energy-optimal symmetric-key ciphers is one of the goals for the use of ciphers in such environments. In the paper by Banik et al. (IACR ToSC 2018), stream ciphers were identified as id ...

Passivating contacts are key enablers for high efficiency c-Si solar cells. Here, we present our latest advancement in terms of implementation and understanding in fired passivating contacts (FPC) used as rear p + passivating contact in p-type solar cells. ...

Membrane-less electrolyzers utilize fluidic forces instead of solid barriers for the separation of electrolysis gas products. These electrolyzers have low ionic resistance, a simple design, and the ability to work with electrolytes at different pH values. ...

While the global fuel utilization of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) is limited by the stack aging rate, the fuel excess is typically used in a burner, and thus limiting the system electrical efficiency. Further, natural-gas-fueled SOFCs require treated wat ...

This paper investigates the problem of load-sharing optimization of gas compressors in the presence of uncertainty. The objective is to operate a set of compressor units in an energy-efficient way, while at the same time meeting a varying load demand. The ...

In 2008, the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE TM46 UC) presented an annual-fixed thermal energy benchmark of 240 kWh/m(2)/yr for university campus (UC) buildings as an attempt to reduce energy consumption in public buildings. How ...

Herein, green porphyrin sensitizer Y350-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) with binary ionic liquid-based electrolytes are studied, which are a mixture of 1-methyl-3-propyl-imidazolium iodide and 1-methyl-1-butylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluromethylsulfony ...

Conversion of carbon dioxide into hydrocarbons using solar energy is an attractive strategy for storing such a renewable source of energy into the form of chemical energy (a fuel). This can be achieved in a system coupling a photovoltaic (PV) cell to an el ...

In Switzerland, according to Swiss Federal Office of Energy around 50% of primary energy consumption is attributable to buildings: 30% for heating, air-conditioning and hot water, 14% for electricity and around 6% for construction and maintenance. However, ...
