To explore the governing mechanism underlying the tensile fatigue behavior of Ultra-high Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites (UHPFRC), this study tested eight specimens using four advanced non-destructive measurement techniques. First, mag ...

This study employs a Cohesive Zone Model to quantitatively evaluate the evolution of interfacial fracture parameters across various interface architectures. Employing the Material Extrusion (ME) type 3D printing method, sutural interfaces characterized by ...

We employ a novel discrete element method (DEM) force formulation to simulate adhesive wear and assess the effects of material and loading parameters on the properties of the third-body layer (TBL) formed during sliding motion. The study emphasizes the rol ...

Fractures are diverse geological features. Despite extensive research on their varied geometries and growth mechanisms, there has been relatively little focus on how acid-rock interactions, such as reactive transport and precipitation, influence crack grow ...

Bootstrapping parameters for the approximate homomorphic-encryption scheme of Cheon et al., CKKS (Asiacrypt 17), are usually instantiated using sparse secrets to be efficient. However, using sparse secrets constrains the range of practical parameters withi ...

Since the 70s, there has been a growing interest in activity-based modelling. This approach models the need to travel as a result of performing daily activities (Bowman and Ben-Akiva, 2001). Nevertheless, the activities need to be scheduled which involves ...

We consider expected performances based on max-stable random fields and we are interested in their derivatives with respect to the spatial dependence parameters of those fields. Max-stable fields, such as the Brown-Resnick and Smith fields, are very popula ...

The use of punching shear reinforcement is currently considered as one of the most convenient practices to enhance the punching shear strength and deformation capacity of slab-column connections in flat slabs. Intensive research has been performed in the l ...

A good knowledge of material properties is a critical aspect for modeling high-temperature superconductor (HTS) devices. However, the electrical resistivity of coated conductors above the critical current is limited. The major challenge in characterizing t ...

The behavior of reinforced-concrete structural elements under moving loads involves many complex parameters related to material properties, vehicle loading, environmental changes and structural response. It is difficult to generate the real conditions of l ...

In this study, the high-cycle fatigue behavior of bridge connections subjected to distortion-induced loadings (generating multiaxial stresses) and strengthened with prestressed elements were experimentally investigated. Thereafter, appropriate critical pla ...

One of the most instrumental aspects governing the response of structural concrete at ultimate limit state refers to the possibility of developing smeared cracking patterns within a member (associated normally to the presence of sufficient reinforcement fo ...

The management of existing civil infrastructure is challenging due to evolving functional requirements, aging and climate change. Civil infrastructure often has hidden reserve capacity because of conservative approaches used in design and during constructi ...

This study aims to experiment with the mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP)/thermoplastic elastomer/nano-silica/compatibilizer nanocomposite using the melt mixing method. The addition of polyolefin elastomers has proved to be an approachable solutio ...

Cast-in-place thin layers of Ultra-High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites (UHPFRC) on the specific zones of existing reinforced concrete (RC) bridge decks has been demonstrated to be a technically efficient and economic rehabilitation an ...

The objective of this thesis is to improve methods for predicting the fatigue life, multiaxial or not, of mild- and more particularly high-strength steels using local approaches that have the capacity to be applicable to almost any cases, hence the term ge ...

Today, it is widely accepted that fatigue is one of the most common failure mechanisms in structural components, and pure static failure is rarely observed. Engineering structures are subjected to complex mechanical fatigue loading histories, which cause d ...

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present an analysis of common parameters in existing tools that provide guidance to carry out Whole Building Life Cycle Assessment (WBLCA) and proposes a new taxonomy, a catalogue of parameters, for the definition of ...

Wind turbine rotor blades are usually fabricated using composite materials and epoxy adhesive to bond the elements together. Due to their large size, the thickness of the adhesive layer varies from 1 to up to 30 mm depending on the position. The failure of ...

Titanium-based Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) manufactured by additive manufacturing offer tremendous lightweighting opportunities. However, processing the high reinforcement contents needed to substantially improve elastic modulus while conserving signifi ...
