Witness encryption is a cryptographic primitive which encrypts a message under an instance of an NP language and decrypts the ciphertext using a witness associated with that instance. In the current state of the art, most of the witness encryption construc ...

An integer linear program is a problem of the form max{c^T x : Ax=b, x >= 0, x integer}, where A is in Z^(n x m), b in Z^m, and c in Z^n. Solving an integer linear program is NP-hard in general, but there are several assumptions for which it becomes fixed ...

Minimising the longest travel distance for a group of mobile robots with interchangeable goals requires knowledge of the shortest length paths between all robots and goal destinations. Determining the exact length of the shortest paths in an environment wi ...

We consider fundamental algorithmic number theoretic problems and their relation to a class of block structured Integer Linear Programs (ILPs) called 2-stage stochastic. A 2-stage stochastic ILP is an integer program of the form min{c(T)x vertical bar Ax = ...

Pearl's do calculus is a complete axiomatic approach to learn the identifiable causal effects from observational data. When such an effect is not identifiable, it is necessary to perform a collection of often costly interventions in the system to learn the ...

Ru/CNF catalysts of different Ru nanoparticle (NP) sizes (0.9-2.7 nm) were assessed for their performance in continuous supercritical water gasification (SCWG) of glycerol. A structure sensitivity of Ru was demonstrated, with high initial turnover frequenc ...

We show that Cutting Planes (CP) proofs are hard to find: Given an unsatisfiable formula F, It is -hard to find a CP refutation of F in time polynomial in the length of the shortest such refutation; and unless Gap-Hitting-Set admits a nontrivial algorithm, ...

We study the computations that Bayesian agents undertake when exchanging opinions over a network. The agents act repeatedly on their private information and take myopic actions that maximize their expected utility according to a fully rational posterior be ...

This letter studies the measurement scheduling problem for a group of

mobile robots moving on a flat surface that are preforming cooperative localization (CL). We consider a scenario in which due to the limited on-board resources such as battery life a ...

Decreasing defects, waste time, meeting customer demand and being adaptable are the goals of a Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) strategy. Scheduling is an important tool to perform that. It should take in account buffer size allocation. In this study, a met ...

An integer program (IP) is a problem of the form

\min \{f(x) : \, Ax = b, \ l \leq x \leq u, \ x \in \Z^n\}

, where

A \in \Z^{m \times n}

b \in \Z^m

l,u \in \Z^n

, and

f: \Z^n \rightarrow \Z

is a separable convex objective function. The problem o ...

Rapid advances in data collection and processing capabilities have allowed for the use of increasingly complex models that give rise to nonconvex optimization problems. These formulations, however, can be arbitrarily difficult to solve in general, in the s ...

In this article, the design of a quality control network is considered in an entire supply chain, in the context of an international food and beverage company, denoted as ABC. For each possible control point of the network, two decisions have to be made: ( ...

Multiview applications endow final users with the possibility to freely navigate within 3D scenes with minimum-delay. A real feeling of scene navigation is enabled by transmitting multiple high-quality camera views, which can be used to synthesize addition ...

We present an analytical model to describe the stability of arbitrary semiconducting nanoparticle (NP) superlattices as a function of the dipole and polarizability of their constituents. We first validate our model by comparison with density functional the ...

Nonspecific protein adhesion to nanoparticle (NP) has been proven to have important implications in nanomedicine. However, there are only a few examples of careful studies relating protein binding thermodynamics to NP physicochemical features. In particula ...

Vulnerability metrics play a key role in the understanding of cascading failures and target/random attacks to a network. The graph fragmentation problem (GFP) is the result of a worst-case analysis of a random attack. We can choose a fixed number of indivi ...

Knapsack problems give a simple framework for decision making. A classical example is the min-knapsack problem (MinKnap): choose a subset of items with minimum total cost, whose total profit is above a given threshold. While this model successfully general ...

In this work, we study the computational complexity of the Minimum Distance Code Detection problem. In this problem, we are given a set of noisy codeword observations and we wish to find a code in a set of linear codes C of a given dimension k, for which t ...

The vertex cover problem is one of the most important and intensively studied combinatorial optimization problems. Khot and Regev [Khot S, Regev O (2008) Vertex cover might be hard to approximate to within 2 - epsilon. J. Comput. System Sci. 74(3): 335-349 ...
