Photometric stereo, a computer vision technique for estimating the 3D shape of objects through images captured under varying illumination conditions, has been a topic of research for nearly four decades. In its general formulation, photometric stereo is an ...

Human motion analysis and synthesis is integral to many computer vision applications, from autonomous driving to sports analysis. In this thesis, we address several problems in this domain. First we consider active viewpoint selection for pose estimation w ...

Accurately estimating 3D human pose (3D HPE) and joint locations using only 2D keypoints is challenging. The noise in the predictions produced by conventional 2D human pose estimators often impeded the accuracy. In this paper, we present a diffusion-based ...

Detecting people from 2D images and analyzing their motion in 3D have been long standing computer vision problems central to numerous applications such as autonomous driving and athletic training. Recently, with the availability of large amounts of trainin ...

In this paper we propose an unsupervised feature extraction method to capture temporal information on monocular videos, where we detect and encode subject of interest in each frame and leverage contrastive self-supervised (CSS) learning to extract rich lat ...

LiftPose3D infers three-dimensional poses from two-dimensional data or from limited three-dimensional data. The approach is illustrated for videos of behaving Drosophila, mice, rats and macaques. ...

An innovative photogrammetric pipeline has been developed by INAF-Padova for the processing of the stereo images from the CaSSIS (Colour and Stereo Imaging System) (Thomas et al., 2014). CaSSIS is the multispectral stereo push frame camera on board ExoMars ...

Perceiving humans in the context of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) often relies on multiple cameras or expensive LiDAR sensors. In this work, we present a new cost-effective vision-based method that perceives humans' locations in 3D and their bod ...

Stereo reconstruction is a problem of recovering a 3d structure of a scene from a pair of images of the scene, acquired from different viewpoints. It has been investigated for decades and many successful methods were developed. The main drawback of these ...

Given an image sequence featuring a portion of a sports field filmed by a moving and uncalibrated camera, such as the one of the smartphones, our goal is to compute automatically in real time the focal length and extrinsic camera parameters for each image ...

The cameras are invented by imitating the human visual system to capture the scene. The camera technologies have been substantially advanced in recent years. 108 MP resolution with 100x hybrid zoom has become standard features for smartphone flagships. In ...

The computational load associated with computer vision is often prohibitive, and limits the capacity for on-board image analysis in compact mobile robots. Replicating the kind of feature detection and neural processing that animals excel at remains a chall ...

Today, a frame-based camera is the sensor of choice for machine vision applications. However, these cameras, originally developed for acquisition of static images rather than for sensing of dynamic uncontrolled visual environments, suffer from high power c ...

We propose a new bottom-up method for multi-person 2D human pose estimation that is particularly well suited for urban mobility such as self-driving cars and delivery robots. The new method, PifPaf, uses a Part Intensity Field (PIF) to localize body parts ...

Multiple object tracking is a crucial Computer Vision Task. It aims at locating objects of interest in the image sequences, maintaining their identities, and identifying their trajectories over time. A large portion of current research focuses on tracking ...

Accurate 3D human pose estimation from single images is possible with sophisticated deep-net architectures that have been trained on very large datasets. However, this still leaves open the problem of capturing motions for which no such database exists. Ma ...

Estimating the 3D poses of rigid and articulated bodies is one of the fundamental problems of Computer Vision. It has a broad range of applications including augmented reality, surveillance, animation and human-computer interaction. Despite the ever-growin ...

In our everyday life we interact with the surrounding environment using our hands. A main focus of recent research has been to bring such interaction to virtual objects, such as the ones projected in virtual reality devices, or super-imposed as holograms i ...

Advances in camera sensor technology and its manufacturing process now allow high quality image acquisition with low-cost devices. Moreover, the latest significant increase in computational capacity of the processing units enables incorporation of more com ...

We propose a single-shot approach for simultaneously detecting an object in an RGB image and predicting its 6D pose without requiring multiple stages or having to examine multiple hypotheses. Unlike a recently proposed single-shot technique for this task [ ...
