To explore the governing mechanism underlying the tensile fatigue behavior of Ultra-high Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites (UHPFRC), this study tested eight specimens using four advanced non-destructive measurement techniques. First, mag ...

A key component in developing atrial digital twins (ADT) - virtual representations of patients’ atria — is the accurate prescription of myocardial fibers which are essential for the tissue characterization. Due to the difficulty of reconstructing atrial fi ...

Reinforced concrete flat slabs consist of a continuous, thin concrete plate that rests on a grid of columns. The supporting surface of the columns is very small compared to the floor plan dimensions, leading to concentrations of shear forces near the colum ...

A common method for creating compliant electrodes for dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) and soft sensors is to incorporate electrically conductive carbon particles into a polymer matrix. However, using unidirectional aligned carbon fibers instead not o ...

This work investigates the integration of Additive Manufacturing (AM) techniques with cellular metamaterials integrated into composite sandwich beam systems. The study proposes an approach that combines composite materials for the face sheets with cellular ...

Frontal polymerisation has the potential to bring unprecedented reductions in energy demand and process time to produce fibre reinforced polymer composites. Production of epoxy-based fibre reinforced polymer parts with high fibre volume content, commonly e ...

Wind turbine rotor blades are usually fabricated using composite materials and epoxy adhesive to bond the elements together. Due to their large size, the thickness of the adhesive layer varies from 1 to up to 30 mm depending on the position. The failure of ...

Titanium-based Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) manufactured by additive manufacturing offer tremendous lightweighting opportunities. However, processing the high reinforcement contents needed to substantially improve elastic modulus while conserving signifi ...

Reinforced concrete walls provide effective bracing against seismic lateral loading for buildings worldwide. In Latin America, seismic design provisions commonly adhere to the ACI 318 building code, which is predominantly based on United States constructio ...

This paper aims to propose a novel approach to assess the multi-crack behavior of layered fiber-polymer composites. The Compliance and R-curves generated from this novel approach were useful to understand the multiple delamination process, enabling to eval ...

This paper presents the development and industrial manufacturing of a pultruded high-performance carbon fibre (CF) reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite strip using a bio-based unsaturated polyester (UP) resin containing more than 50% of its weight derived f ...

Delamination in composite materials is often accompanied by fiber bridging that increases resistance to crack growth. Here, delamination of two unidirectional carbon/epoxy systems was studied under monotonic and displacement-controlled fatigue loading. One ...

The elastic limit tensile stress of UHPFRC is governed by contributions of the cementitious matrix and the fibrous skeleton. This paper finds that fiber orientation has significant influence on the matrix tensile strength of UHPFRC, while this is not consi ...

Composites formed from wood fibers and man-made cellulosic fibers in PLA (polylactic acid) matrix, manufactured using sheet forming technique and hot pressing, are studied. The composites have very low density (due to high porosity) and rather good elastic ...

The mode I delamination behavior of a unidirectional glass-fiber reinforced polymer with a prototype elasto-plastic polyurethane matrix (GF/PU) was investigated and compared with that of glass/epoxy (GF/EP) using double cantilever beam specimens. Fracture ...

The Supersingular Isogeny Diffie-Hellman (SIDH) protocol has been the main and most efficient isogeny-based encryption protocol, until a series of breakthroughs led to a polynomial-time key-recovery attack. While some countermeasures have been proposed, th ...

Semiconductor materials have given rise to today's digital technology and consumer electronics. Widespread adoption is closely linked to the ability to process and integrate them in devices at scale. Where flexibility and large surfaces are required, such ...

Fiber reinforced polymers (FRPs) subjected to mode I fracture show important toughening due to the development of large scale bridging (LSB). Experimental studies of this phenomenon in unidirectional carbon/epoxy laminates using double cantilever beam spec ...

Liquid composite moulding methods are widely applied for manufacturing of fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composites and consist of two main stages: impregnation of fibrous reinforcements by a liquid monomer resin and curing of this resin. This thesis work ...

Given n continuous open curves in the plane, we say that a pair is touching if they have finitely many interior points in common and at these points the first curve does not get from one side of the second curve to its other side. Otherwise, if the two cur ...
