The goal of my PhD was the development of a new method for unselective surface labeling, not substrate-specific, that would give access to direct visualization of any surface interactions. In order to achieve this challenging goal, we wanted to develop a g ...

A flow directed device adapted to be guided by a fuid, such as blood, flow within a tubular structure such as a blood vessel is disclosed, said device comprising a proximal end (100), a distal end (101) and an elongated body (102) in between defining a lon ...

In-vivo assessment of aortic characteristic impedance (Zao) and total arterial compliance (CT) has been hampered by the need for either invasive or inconvenient and expensive methods to access simultaneous recordings of aortic pressure and flow, wall thick ...

The rates of gross primary production (GPP), ecosystem respiration (R), and net ecosystem production (NEP) provide quantitative information about the cycling of carbon and energy in aquatic ecosystems. In lakes, metabolic rates are often diagnosed from die ...

Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) requires the use of contrast agents (CAs) to enable accurate diagnosis. There are currently no CAs on the market with appropriate pharmacokinetic (PK) parameters, namely long persistence in the blood, that can be easily ...

The prediction of implant behavior in vivo by the use of easy-to-perform in vitro methods is of great interest in biomaterials research. Simulated body fluids (SBFs) have been proposed and widely used to evaluate the bone-bonding ability of implant materia ...

Caenorhabditis elegans is one of the most attractive model organisms in biomedical research for understanding human diseases and for drug testing at a whole-organism level, since many biological pathways and genes have been conserved between itself and hum ...

The application provides fluorescent dyes, which are cyanine dyes that incorporate additional aza moieties in the indolenium heterocycles and/or in the methine chains connecting them. Symmetrical and unsymmetrical chemically reactive azacyanine dyes are de ...

Demetallation of metalloporphyrin molecules is one of the essential degradation reactions in photosynthesis. The effect of metalloporphyrin nature on removal of central metals from tetraphenylporphyrin complexes based on lanthanide group metals (Dy, Er, Lu ...

Employing dielectric microspheres in a standard microscope setup is an alternative to image sub-diffraction features optically, however this method suffers from a limited field-of-view. Here, we show our microsphere-based optical super-resolution microscop ...

The prediction of implant behaviors in vivo by the use of easy-to-perform in vitro methods is of great interest in biomaterials research. In the field of bone implants, it is commonly accepted that a spontaneous formation of a hydroxyapatite (HA) layer on ...

The concentration of oxygen and its rate of consumption are important factors in certain medical treatments, such as radiotherapy and photodynamic therapy (PDT). Measuring the tissue concentration of oxygen or its partial pressure (pO2) can be achieved by ...

Developing a successful bone tissue engineering strategy entails translation of experimental findings to clinical needs. A major leap forward towards this goal is developing a quantitative tool to predict spatial and temporal bone formation in scaffold. We ...

In biological environments, the surface of nanoparticles (NPs) are modified by protein corona (PC) that determines their biological behavior. Unfortunately, in vitro tests still give different PC than in vivo tests causing in vitro-in vivo discrepancy; hen ...

Laser-induced optical breakdown (LIOB) is a multiphoton process which can be used for selective removal of material. It revolves around the creation of a plasma in the focal volume of a beam, and requires very high peak intensities in the order of the GW.c ...

Mechanical stimuli are critical for the development and maintenance of most tissues such as muscles, cartilage, bones and blood vessels. The commercially available cell culture systems replicating the in vivo environment are typically based on simple membr ...

The diprotonated form of a fluorinated free base porphyrin, namely 5-(p-aminophenyl)-10,15,20-tris(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin (H(2)FAP), can catalyze the reduction of oxygen by a weak electron donor, namely ferrocene (Fc). At a water/1,2-dichloroethane in ...

Venous anastomotic intimal hyperplasia (IH) observed in the arteriovenous shunt (AVS) has been associated with disturbed hemodynamics. This study aims to correlate hemodynamics with wall histology and wall mechanics by examining the flow field in AVS with ...
