Neural organoids and spheroids are three-dimensional (3D) in vitro brain models that mimic key aspects of human brain cellular composition, organization, and function. These models have become essential for studying brain development and neurological disor ...

This paper introduces MNE-RT, a Python package designed for real-time neural feature extraction from magne-toencephalography (MEG) and electroencephalography (EEG) signals in Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) systems. The package incorporates efficient algori ...

Micro-nanotechnology based multielectrode arrays have led to remarkable progress in the field of transmembrane voltage recordings of excitable cells. However, electrode geometries alone have failed to produce a cell-electrode interface that is sufficiently ...

The binding of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) to extrasynaptic GABA(A) receptors generates tonic inhibition that acts as a powerful modulator of cortical network activity. Despite GABA being present throughout the extracellular space of the brain, previous ...

Recently the building of large neuronal circuits from realistic neuron models has gained traction. This bottom-up approach relies on the accurate description of the primitive elements composing the brain such as neurons and astrocytes, that are then aggreg ...

Blindness remains one of the most impairing disabilities worldwide, profoundly affecting independence, social participation, and quality of life. While assistive technologies offer partial support, they do not restore visual function. Retinal prostheses re ...

Micronanotechnology-based multielectrode ar- rays have led to remarkable progress in the field of transmembrane voltage recording of excitable cells. However, providing long-term optoporation- or electroporation-free intracellular access remains a consider ...

Biomedical technologies in neuroprosthetics are made to restore or replace functions from the nervous system, as well as alleviate pathological conditions. Peripheral nerve interfaces use neuromodulatory techniques to inhibit pain or depression, prevent ep ...

Hand neuroprostheses restore voluntary movement in people with paralysis through neuromodulation protocols. There are a variety of strategies to control hand neuroprostheses, which can be based on residual body movements or brain activity. There is no univ ...

Although peripheral nerve stimulation using intraneural electrodes has been shown to be an effective and reliable solution to restore sensory feedback after hand loss, there have been no reports on the characterization of multi-channel stimulation. A deepe ...

The human brain consists of approximately a hundred billion of neurons that communicate through a unique series of biochemical and electrical processes. When neuronal networks are solicited, electrochemical processes happen involving millions of cells with ...

Over the past decade, there has been a growing interest in the development of intelligent neural interface systems-on-chip (SoCs) for a range of neurological disorders and emerging brain-machine interface (BMI) applications. The shift toward creating intel ...

A novel microfabrication technique for microelectrode arrays (MEAs) with a full diamond-cell interface is demonstrated. Boron-doped nano-crystalline diamond (BNCD) is used as a conductive electrode material on metal tracks insulated by intrinsic NCD. MEAs ...

Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) affects almost 500,000 people every year, causing complete paralysis of both legs in severe cases, with no current treatment perspective. However, new neuroengineering technologies, such as the Brain Spine Interface (BSI), have eme ...

As an advanced brain-computer interface, the flexible surface electrodearrayhas been used for spatiotemporal localization of neural interactions by recording electrocorticography (ECoG) signals over brain cortical areas. Compared with the electrical stimul ...

Here we present a planar patch clamp chip based on biomimetic cell membrane fusion. This architecture uses nanometer length-scale surface patterning to replicate the structure and function of membrane proteins, creating a gigaohm seal between the cell and ...

Micro- nano-electrodes have demonstrated superior performances in measuring attenuated intracellular action potentials from electrogenic cell cultures compared to traditional multi-electrode arrays. Yet, the understanding of the critical electrode features ...

The brain and behavior are under energetic constraints, limited by mitochondrial energy transformation capacity. However, the mitochondria-behavior relationship has not been systematically studied at a brain-wide scale. Here we examined the association bet ...

Cell assemblies manipulation by optogenetics is pivotal to advance neuroscience and neuroengineering. In in vivo applications, photostimulation often broadly addresses a population of cells simultaneously, leading to feed-forward and to reverberating respo ...

The maturation of glutamatergic synapses in the CNS is regulated by NMDA receptors (NMDARs) that gradually change from a GluN2B- to a GluN2A-dominated subunit composition during postnatal development. Here we show that NMDARs control the activity of the sm ...
