We present a new setup for resonant inelastic hard x-ray scattering at the Bernina beamline of SwissFEL with energy, momentum, and temporal resolution. The compact R = 0.5 m Johann-type spectrometer can be equipped with up to three crystal analyzers and al ...

We study the statistical mechanics and the equilibrium dynamics of a system of classical Heisenberg spins with frustrated interactions on a d -dimensional simple hypercubic lattice, in the limit of infinite dimensionality d -> infinity . In the analysis we ...

Using quantum Monte Carlo simulations and field-theory arguments, we study the fully frustrated transversefield Ising model on the square lattice for the purpose of quantitatively relating two different order parameters to each other. We consider a "primar ...

We photoexcite high-energy holon-doublon pairs as a way to alter the magnetic free energy landscape and resulting phase diagram of the frustrated honeycomb magnet ??-RuCl3. The pair recombination through multimagnon emission is tracked through the time evo ...

We investigate the momentum-resolved spin and charge susceptibilities, as well as the chemical potential and double occupancy in the two-dimensional Hubbard model as functions of doping, temperature, and interaction strength. Through these quantities, we i ...

Dispersion of objects in a fluid phase can be classified as solutions (Gibbs free energy of mixing, Delta G(mix) < 0) or suspensions (Delta G(mix) > 0) depending on their thermodynamic stability. Small objects tend to form solutions, larger ones suspension ...

ATP-Binding Cassette (ABC) transporters are a broad family of biological machines, found in most prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, performing the crucial import or export of substrates through both plasma and organellar membranes, and maintaining a steady ...

Co3Sn2S2 has recently been predicted to be a Weyl semimetal in which magnetic order is key to its behavior as a topological material. Here, we report unpolarized neutron diffraction and spherical neutron polarimetry measurements, supported by magnetization ...

In this paper we study a multi-species disordered model on the Nishimori line. The typical properties of this line, a set of identities and inequalities among correlation functions, allow us to prove the replica symmetry i.e. the concentration of the order ...

A Muon Spin Rotation (mu+SR) study was conducted to investigate the magnetic properties of SrCu2(BO3)(2) (SCBO) as a function of temperature/pressure. Measurements in zero field and transverse field confirm the absence of long range magnetic order at high ...

Numerical simulations have become an indispensable tool in astrophysics and cosmology. The constant need for higher accuracy, higher resolutions, and models of ever-increasing sophistication and complexity drives the development of modern tools which targe ...

WC-Co cemented carbides are composites, which combine a hard phase consisting of WC grains and a metallic ductile phase as a binder. Their excellent mechanical properties, combining high hardness, toughness and refractory properties, make them excellent ma ...

We show how to construct, by exploiting adiabatic time and length scale separation between atomistic and continuum mechanics, a multiscale scheme for continuum dynamics free from macroscopic constitutive modeling. To do so, we introduce a new set of degree ...

The spin-1/2 Heisenberg model on the pyrochlore lattice is an iconic frustrated three-dimensional spin system with a rich phase diagram. Besides hosting several ordered phases, the model is debated to possess a spin-liquid ground state when only nearest-ne ...

Carbon K-edge resonant Auger spectra of gas-phase allene following excitation of the pre-edge 1s -> pi* transitions are presented and analysed with the support of EOM-CCSD/cc-pVTZ calculations. X-Ray absorption (XAS), X-ray photoelectron (XPS), valence ban ...

Macroscale analogues(1-3) of microscopic spin systems offer direct insights into fundamental physical principles, thereby advancing our understanding of synchronization phenomena(4) and informing the design of novel classes of chiral metamaterials(5-7). He ...

In matter, any spontaneous symmetry breaking induces a phase transition characterized by an order parameter, such as the magnetization vector in ferromagnets, or a macroscopic many electron wave function in superconductors. Phase transitions with unknown o ...

We study the plasmon modes of gold nanorods (as short as similar to 100 nm) on a nonmetallic conductive substrate using scanning tunneling microscope-induced light emission (STM-LE) with a nonplasmonic tungsten tip at room temperature in high vacuum (10-7 ...

The Large Charge sector of Conformal Field Theory (CFT) can generically be described through a semiclassical expansion around a superfluid background. In this work, focussing on U(1) invariant Wilson-Fisher fixed points, we study the spectrum of spinning l ...
