A hybrid photothermal catalytic system, which combines both the photochemical (light) and thermal (heat) activation pathways over a bifunctional catalyst, has demonstrated remarkable levels of reaction activity and selectivity when compared with individual ...

The current reliance on limited petrochemical resources and the resulting ecological outcomes have made the exploration of alternative chemical and energy feedstocks invaluable. As such, the development of sustainable processes with a less harmful total en ...

Hybrid organic/inorganic materials have contributed to solve important challenges in different areas of science. One of the biggest challenges for a more sustainable society is to have active and stable catalysts that enable the transition from fossil fuel ...

The main nucleating vapor in the atmosphere is thought to be sulfuric acid (H2SO4), stabilized by ammonia (NH3). However, in marine and polar regions, NH3 is generally low, and H2SO4 is frequently found together with iodine oxoacids [HIOx, i.e., iodic acid ...

Catalysts play a major role in chemical synthesis, and catalysis is considered to be a green and economic process. Catalysis is dominated by covalent interactions between the catalyst and substrate. The design of non-covalent catalysts came into limelight ...

Two-dimensional (2D) materials catalysts provide an atomic-scale view on a fascinating arena for understanding the mechanism of electrocatalytic carbon dioxide reduction (CO2 ECR). Here, we successfully exfoliated both layered and nonlayered ultra-thin met ...

In this work, two novel well-defined Cu (I) complexes of a Schiff base ligand are described. For this purpose, N, N '-bis (trans-cinnamaldehyde) ethylenediimine [C20H20N2] (L) and Cu (I) complex of the type [CuC20H20N2)PPh3Cl] (C1) and [Cu(C20H20N2)PPh3Br] ...

Renewable energy sources offer a promising solution for mitigating sustainability and CO2 emissions-related issues due to their vast energy generation capacity. They enable hydrogen production via water electrolysis, as well as carbon capture and utilizati ...

X-ray magnetic circular dichroism, atomic multiplet simulations, and density functional theory calculations are employed to identify criteria for the optimum combination of supporting alkaline earth oxide and adsorption site maximizing the spin lifetimes o ...

Realizing a hydrogen economy strongly requires alkaline water electrolysis to achieve large-scale generation of H2, but lacks stable and efficient catalysts. The insufficient active sites in Ni(OH)2 impair the catalytic performance of alkaline HER. Herein, ...

The application of Earth-abundant metals in asymmetric catalysis is key to transition towards a more sustainable chemistry. In particular, expanding the library of redox-active ligands capable of supporting Earth-abundant metals is essential in order to re ...

Group 9 metals, in particular Rh III complexes with cyclopentadienyl ligands, are competent C–H activation catalysts. Recently, a Cp*Rh III catalyzed reaction of alkenes with N -enoxyphthalimides showed divergent outcome based on the solvent, with carboami ...

The need for efficient and selective catalysts, capable of driving important conversions to build a more sustainable society, encourages the development of synthetic approaches towards new nanomaterials. Cu-based bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs) promise to f ...

To curb the severe effects of climate change, our society needs to radically reduce its CO2 footprint. For the heavy-duty sector, where electrification is difficult, alternative fuels can be the solution. Methane-fueled engines have lower energy-specific C ...

The stepwise catalytic reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) to formic acid, formaldehyde, and methanol opens non-fossil pathways to important platform chemicals. The present article aims at identifying molecular control parameters to steer the selectivity to ...

A microcasting process is used to produce high aspect ratio ( > 30) monocrystalline pure aluminium wires with a diameter between 14 and 115 mu m. The role of thermal activation in the plastic deformation of these microwires is measured by means of (single) ...

Barium zirconium sulfide (BaZrS3) is an earth-abundant and environmentally friendly chalcogenide perovskite with promising properties for various energy conversion applications. Recently, sulfurization of oxide precursors has been suggested as a viable sol ...
