Non-adiabatic electron response leads to significant changes in ion temperature gradient (ITG) eigenmodes, leading, in particular, to fine-structures that are significantly extended along the magnetic field lines at corresponding mode rational surfaces (MR ...

Mixed-phase clouds (MPCs), composed of both liquid and ice, are prevalent in Southern Ocean cyclones. A characterization of these clouds on fine vertical scales is required in order to understand the microphysical processes within these clouds, and for mod ...

Meridional atmospheric transport is an important process in the climate system and has implications for the availability of heat and moisture at high latitudes. Near-surface cold and warm temperature advection over the ocean in the context of extratropical ...

Numerical models that can simulate coupled geometric instabilities in steel beam-columns are required for the seismic assessment of certain steel moment-resisting frames. Reliably simulating coupled instabilities requires that the steel material is precise ...

Theory-based scaling laws of the near and far scrape-off layer (SOL) widths are analytically derived for L-mode diverted tokamak discharges by using a two-fluid model. The near SOL pressure and density decay lengths are obtained by leveraging a balance amo ...

Simulation is an informative tool to plan the design and renovation of engineering systems, but its use requires accurate inputs from the users. Inputs such as the unknown future operating conditions might be expected in a system’s lifetime, e.g., the futu ...

We present numerical simulations and experimental results of the self-modulation of a long proton bunch in a plasma with linear density gradients along the beam path. Simulation results agree with the experimental results reported [F. Braunmller, T. Nechae ...

In this contribution, we propose an algorithm for replacing non-linear process simulation integrated in multi-level optimization of an energy system superstructure with surrogate models. With our approach, we demonstrate that surrogate models are a valid t ...

This work presents a quantitative test of SOLPS-ITER simulations against tokamak a configuration variable (TCV) L-mode experiments. These simulations account for drifts, currents, kinetic neutrals, and carbon impurities providing the most complete edge tra ...

The interaction between neutral particles and the plasma plays a key role in determining the dynamics of the tokamak boundary that, in turn, significantly impact the overall performance of the device. Leveraging the work in Wersal and Ricci [Nucl. Fusion 5 ...

Purpose The study aims to display the bubbles' evolution in the shear layer and their relationship with the pressure fluctuations. Furthermore, the coherent structures of the first six modes are extracted, in order to provide insight into their temporal an ...

The hydropower sector has recently raised the interest in pump as turbine (PaT) that can be a valid trade-off between capital cost and performance in micro-scale installations. Nevertheless, the modest efficiency of PaTs often restricts their exploitation. ...
