Embedded systems confront two opposite goals: low-power operation and high performance. The current trend to reach these goals is toward heterogeneous platforms, including multi-core architectures with heterogeneous cores and hardware accelerators. The lat ...

Disaggregated memory can address resource provisioning inefficiencies in current datacenters. Multiple software runtimes for disaggregated memory have been proposed in an attempt to make disaggregated memory practical. These systems rely on the virtual mem ...

The miniaturization of integrated circuits (ICs) and their higher performance and energy efficiency, combined with new machine learning algorithms and applications, have paved the way to intelligent, interconnected edge devices. In the medical domain, they ...

High-Level Synthesis (HLS) tools generate hardware designs from high-level programming languages. These tools almost universally build datapaths that are controlled using a centralized controller which relies on a static, compile-time schedule to determine ...

Skyrmions are topologically protected nanometer-sized magnetic vortices that have sparked interest for future spintronics applications aiming at high-density, high-speed and low-power consuming magnetic memory devices. One type of skyrmions appears in non- ...

Ferroelectric materials offer a broad range of application-relevant properties, including spontaneous polarization switchable by electric field. Archetypical representatives of this class of materials are perovskites, currently used in applications ranging ...

Among the different types of dynamic random-access memories (DRAMs), gain-cell embedded DRAM (GC-eDRAM) is a compact, low-power, and CMOS-compatible alternative to conventional static random-access memory (SRAM). GC-eDRAM achieves high memory density, as i ...

The rise of data-intensive applications has resulted in an increasing demand for high-density and low-power on-chip embedded memories. Gain-cell embedded DRAM (GC-eDRAM) is a logic-compatible alternative to conventional static random access memory (SRAM) w ...

Gain-cell embedded DRAM (GC-eDRAM) is an attractive alternative to conventional SRAM due to its high-density, low-leakage, and inherent two-ported functionality. However, its dynamic storage mechanism requires power-hungry refresh cycles to maintain data. ...

Utilization of edge devices has exploded in the last decade, with such use cases as wearable devices, autonomous driving, and smart homes. As their ubiquity grows, so do expectations of their capabilities. Simultaneously, their formfactor and use cases lim ...

A method of accessing a memory space of a memory device with a decoder, the memory space having faults, including the steps of performing a memory access operation by an electronic device to a access a logical memory space of the memory device, and randomi ...

Resistive switching memory technologies (RRAM) are seen by most of the scientific community as an enabler for Edge-level applications such as embedded deep Learning, AI or signal processing of audio and video signals. However, going beyond a "simple'' repl ...

Computing servers play a key role in the development and process of emerging compute-intensive applications in recent years. However, they need to operate efficiently from an energy perspective viewpoint, while maximizing the performance and lifetime of th ...

The growing need for connected, smart and energy efficient devices requires them to provide both ultra-low standby power and relatively high computing capabilities when awoken. In this context, emerging resistive memory technologies (RRAM) appear as a prom ...
