Non-invasive beam diagnostics are essential for operating modern high-intensity accelerators such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Among these diagnostics, Schottky monitors stand out for their ability to measure tune, chromaticity, momentum spread, and ...

One route to the control of quantum magnetism at ultrafast timescales is magnetophononics, the modulation of magnetic interactions by coherently driven lattice excitations. Theoretical studies of a gapped quantum magnet subject to continuous, single-freque ...

Bessel beams (BBs) are propagation-invariant optical fields that retain a narrow central intensity profile over longer propagation lengths than Gaussian beams (GBs). Due to this property, they have been adopted in fluorescence-based light sheet microscopy ...

In an era where portable electronic devices are indispensable for a wide range of activities, the need for displays that provide both long-lasting battery life and excellent visibility in different lighting conditions is increasingly important. Emissive di ...

The overall sensitivity of frontside-illuminated, silicon single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays has often suffered from fill factor limitations. The fill factor loss can however be recovered by employing microlenses, whereby the challenges specific t ...

This paper presents a web application for visualizing the tonality of a piece of music-the organization of its chords and scales-at a high level of abstraction and with coordinated playback. The application applies the discrete Fourier transform to the pit ...

Novel forms of light beams carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) have recently gained interest, especially due to some of their intriguing propagation features. Here, we experimentally demonstrate the generation of near-diffraction-free two-dimensional ( ...

Gravitational microlensing is a powerful tool for probing the inner structure of strongly lensed quasars and for constraining parameters of the stellar mass function of lens galaxies. This is achieved by analysing microlensing light curves between the mult ...

The subconvexity problem aims at providing non-trivial (i.e. subconvex) bounds for central values of automorphic L-functions; the main conjecture in this area is the Generalized Lindelof Hypothesis which itself is a consequence of the Generalized Riemann H ...

Near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLI) provides a unique contrast mechanism to monitor biological parameters and molecular events in vivo. Single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) cameras have been recently demonstrated in FLI microscopy (FLIM ...

Attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (ATAS) is used to observe photoexcited dynamics with outstanding time resolution. The main experimental challenge of this technique is that high-harmonic generation sources show significant instabilities, result ...

This paper presents the combined effect of indoor temperature (19 degrees C, 22 degrees C, and 26 degrees C) and colored glazing (blue, orange, and neutral) on visual perception of daylight. Experiments were performed in an office-like test room, in which ...

We define form factors and scattering amplitudes in Conformal Field Theory as the coefficient of the singularity of the Fourier transform of time-ordered correlation functions, as p(2) -> 0. In particular, we study a form factor F(s, t, u) obtained from a ...

The ideal laser source for nonlinear terahertz spectroscopy offers large versatility delivering both ultra-intense broadband single-cycle pulses and user-selectable multi-cycle pulses at narrow linewidths. Here we show a highly versatile terahertz laser pl ...

Lineshape analysis is a recurrent and often computationally intensive task in optics, even more so for multiple peaks in the presence of noise. We demonstrate an algorithm which takes advantage of peak multiplicity (N) to retrieve line shape information. T ...

Microwave photonic technologies, which upshift the carrier into the optical domain, have facilitated the generation and processing of ultra-wideband electronic signals at vastly reduced fractional bandwidths. For microwave photonic applications such as rad ...

We consider the problem of estimating the value of MAX-CUT in a graph in the streaming model of computation. At one extreme, there is a trivial 2-approximation for this problem that uses only O(log n) space, namely, count the number of edges and output hal ...

The Fano resonance is a widespread wave scattering phenomenon associated with a peculiar asymmetric and ultrasharp line shape, which has found applications in a large variety of prominent optical devices. While its substantial sensitivity to geometrical an ...

Block-structured mesh generation techniques have been well addressed in the CFD community for automobile and aerospace studies, and their applicability to magnetic fusion is highly relevant, due to the complexity of the plasma-facing wall structures inside ...
