The present work reports a simple approach to manufacture electrocatalytically active gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs) in two steps: (i) inkjet printing and (ii) flash light irradiation from a xenon flash lamp, a process called Print-light-synthesis (PLS). ...

The global demand for fossil fuels in the transportation sector is increasing rapidly due to the continuous growth of internal combustion engine vehicles. This leads to severe environmental problems, including greenhouse gas emissions and air-quality deter ...

This work presents a detailed breakdown of the energy conversion chains from intermittent electricity to a vehicle, considering battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). The traditional well-to-wheel analysis is adapted to a ...

Strontium migration from the oxygen electrode to the interface between the electrolyte and interlayer was investigated in solid oxide cells in fuel cell (SOFC) and electrolysis (SOEC) modes. Four samples were imaged by focused ion beam scanning electron mi ...

Fuel cell and hydrogen technologies are re-gaining momentum in a number of sectors including industrial, tertiary and residential ones. Integrated biogas fuel cell plants in wastewater treatment plants and other bioenergy recovery plants are nowadays on th ...

Biomass is an attractive renewable and stored energy that can be converted to transportation fuels, chemicals and electricity using bio-chemical and thermo-chemical conversion routes. Notably, biofuels have relatively lower greenhouse gas emissions compare ...

Rapidly increasing levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide and their damaging impact on the global climate system raise doubts about the sustainability of the fossil resource based energy system. Meanwhile, raising living standards and increasing global popul ...

In this paper the effect of systematic errors in gas temperature measurements on the thermal control of a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell system is demonstrated. Three control schemes were tested under two different conditions. First, the real gas temperature at the ...

A novel Ru-catalyzed hydrogenation of carbon dioxide proceeds with an unprecedented high formic acid to amine ratio (AAR of 2.69), which results in an improved energy content. The presented catalyst system allows for reversible fast hydrogen loading (even ...

We demonstrate a monolithic polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell by integrating a narrow (200 mu m) Nafion strip in a molded polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) structure. We propose two designs, based on two 200 mu m-wide and two 80 mu m-wide parallel microflui ...

The increasing cost of carbon based fuels pushes the electricity generation market towards more efficient electricity generation technologies. In this context, fuel cells offer the opportunity to increase efficiency and lower CO2 and NOx emissions, in part ...

As the performances of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) get attractive, long term degradation becomes the main issue for this technology. Therefore it is essential to localise the origin of degradation and to understand its processes in order to find solution ...

Using petrol as a main source of energy, during the 20th century, has caused considerable amounts of damage among which are atmospheric pollution and global warming. At the same time, many geologists and economists expect that the discovery rate of new pet ...

Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) application development is very well represented in Switzerland by two companies. Sulzer Hexis AG is one of the world leaders in the commercialization of SOFC systems for single family houses. A smaller company, HTceramix, is a ...
