Lanthanide atoms show long magnetic lifetimes because of their strongly localized 4f electrons, but electrical control of their spins has been difficult because of their closed valence shell configurations. We achieved electron spin resonance of individual ...

Diazo compounds of the type R1R2CN2 are widely used in organometallic catalysis and synthetic chemistry. Stable diazoolefins, R1R2C=CN2, have only been isolated recently. Diazoolefins undergo cycloaddition reactions and tend to be carbon donors when used a ...

Pyrene-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have tremendous potential for various applications. With infinite structural possibilities, the MOF community often relies on simulations to identify the most promising candidates for given applications. Among t ...

The actinides possess a complex electronic structure, making their chemical and physical properties among the least understood in the periodic table. Advanced spectroscopic tools, able to obtain deep insights into the electronic structure and binding prope ...

Incorporating platinum (Pt) as a gas recombination catalyst in proton exchange membranes (PEMs) effectively addresses the challenge of pronounced hydrogen crossover in PEM water electrolysis cells, particularly when thin membranes are employed. However, th ...

G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are the largest human membrane protein family that transduce extracellular signals into cellular responses. They are major pharmacological targets, with approximately 26% of marketed drugs targeting GPCRs, primarily at t ...

This study aimed to enhance solar disinfection (SODIS) by the photo-Fenton process, operated at natural pH, through the re-utilization of fruit wastes. For this purpose, pure organic acids present in fruits and alimentary wastes were tested and compared wi ...

Structural and electronic factors are crucial to rationalizethedifferent N,O or N,N chelating coordination of pyrazolones containinga pyridine ring. The reactivity of proligand 3-phenyl-1-(pyridin-2-yl)-5-pyrazolone(HLpy,ph) with the (arene)Ru(II) fragment ...

One of the main goals of organometallic chemistry in the last decades was the activation of small molecule in mild reaction conditions. Even though multiple examples of catalytic cycles able to produce fine chemicals from cheap and abundant sources using t ...

Bent (hetero)allenes such as carbodicarbenes and carbodiphosphoranes can act as neutral C-donor ligands, and diverse applications in coordination chemistry have been reported. N-Heterocyclic diazoolefins are heterocumulenes, which can function in a similar ...

A penta-stranded helicate was obtained by combining Pd(CH3CN)42 with La(NO3)3 and a polydentate ligand. The helicate displays low symmetry, both in solution and in the solid state. A dynamic interconversion between the penta-stranded helicate and a ...

The isomerization of iridium(III) complexes with metalated N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands was studied. The fac isomers of complexes with 1-phenyl-3-methylbenzimidazolin-2-ylidene or 1-phenyl-3-benzylbenzimidazolin-2-ylidene ligands are transformed cl ...

Cobalt(II) complexes featuring hexadentate amino-pyridyl ligands have been recently discovered as highly active catalysts for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER), whose high performance arises from the possibility of assisting proton transfer processes v ...

The adverse health effects of air pollution around the world have been associated with the inhalation of fine particulate matter (PM2.5). Such outcomes are thought to be related to the induction of oxidative stress due to the excess formation of reactive o ...

Near-infrared luminescent materials have recently received considerable attention for a large number of applications, including in solid-state lighting, as bioimaging agents, as photovoltaic cells, and in the telecommunication industry. By adding diverse e ...

Previously limited to highly symmetrical homoleptic triple-helical complexes [Er(Lk)3]3+, where Lk are polyaromatic tridentate ligands, single-center molecular-based upconversion using linear optics and exploiting the excited-state absorption mechanism (ES ...

Dynamic nuclear polarisation (DNP) of solids doped with high-spin metal ions, such as Gd3+, is a useful strategy to enhance the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) sensitivity for these samples. Spin diffusion can relay polarisation throughout a sample, which ...

Solving native structures of such large molecules, like biomolecules, is often challenging, particularly due to the potentially infinite number of non-covalent interactions with water. In this thesis, we report the use of cold ion gas-phase action spectros ...

The chemistry of divalent lanthanides has generated increasing interest in the past years due to their redox properties and unique reaction pathways. Notably, molecular complexes of low-valent lanthanides have been shown to be suitable one-electron reducta ...

The structural characterization of supported molecular catalysts is challenging due to the low density of active sites and the presence of several organic/organometallic surface groups resulting from the often complex surface chemistry associated with supp ...
