Calcined coal gangue (CCG) exhibits promising application potential in limestone-cement binary binders. However, the activity of CCG would possibly be weakened due to the particle agglomeration after calcination. In the present research, we tried to overco ...

The effect of equilibration time on the composition, structure and solubility of calcium aluminate silicate hydrate (C-A-S-H) was investigated in 0.5 M NaOH solutions at Al/Si = 0.1. Longer equilibration time led to longer silica chains, to less Na and, to ...

Carbonation treatment is a promising option to enhance recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) quality and eventually improve concrete performance. This study investigated the multi-scale mechanical properties of calcium silicate hydrates (C-S-H) in a mature ali ...

This paper examines the possibility of the use of some clays calcined from Nigeria as partial substitutes for clinker in the production of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3). The clays were calcined in the oven at a temperature of 800 degrees C and for o ...

Microencapsulated phase change materials (MPCM) incorporated in buildings walls can reduce indoor temperature fluctuations, conserving energy and enhancing thermal comfort. MPCM were incorporated in calcium sulphoaluminate cement (CSA) at high concentratio ...

Understanding the sulfate balance mechanism of cement is needed for an effective use of sustainable blended cements. Pure phase systems allow to study the interaction between sulfate and each of the phases involved in early age hydration separately. This p ...

This study aims to investigate the change with temperature of the water content of the C-(A)-S-H of plain cement (PC) and Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3). The water content was determined by various methods: thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), H-1-nucle ...

This paper presents a comparison of methods to quantify the chloride binding capacity for cementitious materials composed of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Limestone (LS, 0 to 55% replacement). Physical and chemical chloride bindings were investigated ...

The aim of this thesis is to understand the mechanisms underlying the main hydration peak and later ages of alite hydration; it proposes new mechanistic models for these two stages. Alite is the main constituent of Portland Cement (PC), and is responsible ...

A simple and general procedure has been developed to determine the thermal behaviour of a reactor based on heat balance, PID temperature control, and jacket behaviour. Using only temperature heating/cooling ramps followed by isothermal stages, such a proce ...

This article presents a new mechanical model for the non-linear force-displacement response of unreinforced masonry (URM) walls developing a flexural rocking mode including their displacement capacity. The model is based on the plane section hypothesis and ...

Additions of slag are usually considered to give cementitious materials which perform well in sulfate bearing environments. This paper compares the deterioration of slag cement blends to those of plain Portland cement and demonstrates that this occurs more ...

The automatic generation of elastic-plastic stress fields (EPSF) for structural concrete members by means of the finite element method has been demonstrated as a suitable approach for the design and assessment of D regions. This methodology allows accounti ...

Recently organicinorganic hybrid perovskites have attracted attention as light harvesting materials in mesoscopic cells. While a considerable number of deposition and formation methods have been reported for the perovskite crystalline material, most involv ...

Phase equilibria in the CaO-Al2O3-Fe2O3-SO3 system have been studied, mainly at 1325 degrees C. In particular the solid solution compositions of ye'elimite Ca-4(Al6O12)SO4 and brownmillerite (C-2(A,F)) phases have been analysed and used to estimate the com ...

Extent-based Incremental Model Identification (IMI) uses the concept of extent of reaction and the integral method of parameter estimation to identify reaction kinetics from transient concentration measurements. This study proposes to incorporate calorimet ...

Extent-based incremental identification uses the concept of extents and the integral method of parameter estimation to identify reaction kinetics from concentration measurements. The approach is rather general and can be applied to open both homogeneous an ...

A new DSC-based experimental method to efficiently establish the glass transition temperature, Tg, vs. curing degree, α, relationship for structural adhesives was developed. The method approaches the continuous Tg-α relationship with a trilinear curve esta ...

Hydration of C(3)A-gypsum systems with different gypsum additions was investigated in terms of the phase assemblage, kinetics and microstructural development. The second stage of the reaction, which begins after the depletion of gypsum, was of particular i ...

A new modelling platform, called mu ic has been developed to model the microstructural evolution of hydrating cement paste. The platform uses the vector approach and can be used for modelling particulate reactions including the hydration of many different ...
