Hydrogen, known for its high energy content and clean combustion, is promising in the energy transition. This study explores the environmental impact of a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system. 1 kg of hydrogen production at 1 bar serves as the functional un ...

This work proposes a novel hydrogen-based desalination system to replace fossil fuelbased plants. The system has a water-hydrogen nexus framework to achieve an efficient operation, providing electricity, potable water, and green hydrogen. Through optimal p ...

The present invention concerns an electrolysis system for high temperature electrolysis including a plurality of flow-based electrolysis units configured to receive an electrolyte solution and to perform electrolysis to provide a first output gas and a sec ...

In this work, an inexpensive and reliable microstructured electrode for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is developed. This cathode is made of Earth-abundant elements consisting of iron phosphide as an electrocatalyst and carbon felt (CF) as a flexibl ...

The energy transition towards a carbon-neutral and sustainable economy is one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century to combat global warming and pollution. The decarbonization process is affecting every sector of the economy (electricity, transpor ...

Ammonia (NH3) has 17.8 wt% hydrogen and is easily liquified at 25°C and 8 bar pressure. Ammonia is carbon-free and can be produced sustainably at large scale and low cost. Solid oxide fuel cells generate electricity with efficiencies greater than 60% and c ...

Towards decarbonizing the global economy, hydrogen produced through water electrolysis is expected to be one of the key solutions for variable renewable energy storage and sector coupling, in particular, via the transport sector in the next few decades. Ev ...

Sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) is a chemical commodity widely employed as a disinfection agent in water treatment applications. Its production commonly follows electrochemical routes in an undivided reactor. Powering the process with photovoltaic (PV) electri ...

Transition metals incorporated into molybdenum sulfide and tungsten sulfide matrixes are promising candidates for hydrogen evolution due to the unique chemical and physical properties. Here, we first describe a general strategy for the synthesis of rod-lik ...

It is shown that producing PrBaCo2O5+delta and Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O2+delta nanoparticle by a scalable synthesis method leads to high mass activities for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) with outstanding improvements by 10x and 50x, respectively, compar ...

Strontium migration from the oxygen electrode to the interface between the electrolyte and interlayer was investigated in solid oxide cells in fuel cell (SOFC) and electrolysis (SOEC) modes. Four samples were imaged by focused ion beam scanning electron mi ...

Biomass is an attractive renewable and stored energy that can be converted to transportation fuels, chemicals and electricity using bio-chemical and thermo-chemical conversion routes. Notably, biofuels have relatively lower greenhouse gas emissions compare ...

The electrolysis of water to produce hydrogen and oxygen is a simple and attractive approach to store renewable energies in the form of chemical fuels. The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a complex four-electron process that constitutes the most energy- ...

The development of deployable water-splitting devices is hindered by the cost of electricity and the lack of stable ion conducting membranes that can operate across the pH scale, impose low ionic resistances and avoid product mixing. The membrane-less appr ...

The progressive integration of renewable energy sources such as wind turbines and photovoltaic pannels in the current electrical network, and the rise of the electrical mobility, provoke a change of paradigm in the sector of energy management. The increasi ...

The instantaneous efficiency of an operating photoelectrochemical solar-fuel-generator system is a complicated function of the tradeoffs between the light intensity and temperature-dependence of the photovoltage and photocurrent, as well as the losses asso ...

Using petrol as a main source of energy, during the 20th century, has caused considerable amounts of damage among which are atmospheric pollution and global warming. At the same time, many geologists and economists expect that the discovery rate of new pet ...
