The prediction of departure from nucleate boiling (DNB) has always been a crucial aspect of thermal-hydraulic codes for the analysis of Light Water Reactors. In this paper, GeN-Foam, a multi-physics code developed based on OpenFOAM, has been enhanced to in ...

The heat transfer performance of commercially produced micro-enhanced tubes with and without a nanocoating was investigated under pool boiling of saturated refrigerant. These multiscale enhancements were on the outside of 19 mm horizontal copper tubes heat ...

Multiscale phenomena are involved in countless problems in fluid mechanics. Coating flows are known to exhibit a broad variety of patterns, such as wine tears in a glass and dripping of fresh paint applied on a wall. Coating flows are typically modeled und ...

The global warming potential (GWP) of working fluids in thermodynamic cycles and their environmental impact have been gaining considerable attention within the recent years. The global objectives on climate protection are becoming increasingly ambitious, w ...

Emerging applications in new generation electronic devices require effective heat removal and thermal man-agement. In this regard, boiling is a phase change phenomenon capable of dissipating a large amount of heat compared to the sensible heat. In this stu ...

Dynamics of nucleate boiling are strongly affected by the formation and behaviour of the microlayer, a layer of liquid underneath growing bubbles. As a result of its minute thickness, very high heat fluxes occur within the microlayer and its evaporation co ...

The one-dimensional transient numerical code of JJ Cooling Innovation has been significantly improved to simulate the thermal/hydraulic performance of pulsating heat pipes (PHPs). Using a mechanistic approach, the liquid slug and vapor plug flows and their ...

The use of evaporative cooling in the gas diffusion layer (GDL) of polymer electrolyte fuel cells has been proposed as a simple yet impactful solution to simultaneously provide the functionality of cell cooling, thanks to the dissipation of the latent heat ...

Heat transfer in nucleate boiling relies on the detachment and rise of the boiling bubble, in which gravity plays the dominant role. Previous studies showed that in the absence of gravity, the bubble fails to rise, causing the dryout of the heater and sign ...

This paper presents a comprehensive and critical review of studies on nucleate pool boiling heat transfer, flow boiling heat transfer, critical heat flux (CHF), and two-phase flow phenomena with nanofluids. First, general analysis of the available studies ...

The pulsating nature of a closed loop pulsating heat pipe (CLPHP) makes the prediction of its thermal-hydraulic performance extremely challenging. Unfortunately, the design of CLPHPs is still quite an empirical process, requiring testing of many prototypes ...

Pool boiling has a high heat removal capability and is considered as one of the most effective cooling methods due to utilization of latent heat of vaporization. Surface wettability plays a key role in boiling heat transfer since it controls the contact li ...

The development of newer and more efficient cooling techniques to sustain the increasing power density of high-performance computing systems is becoming one of the major challenges in the development of microelectronics. In this framework, two-phase coolin ...

To date, antisolvent treatment has become one of the most important means to fabricate high efficiency perovskite solar cells (PSCs); however, the few reported antisolvents have not been analyzed on a uniform platform, and there is hitherto no clear reason ...

This work proposes a novel physics-based model for the fluid mechanics and heat transfer associated with slug flow boiling in horizontal circular microchannels to update the widely used three-zone model of Thome et al. (2004). The heat transfer model has a ...

Superconducting wires are not perfectly homogeneous in term of critical current as well as stabilization. In resistive fault current limiter applications this could lead to hot spots if the fault current is only slightly above the nominal current of the de ...

In this study, large-eddy simulation combined with a turbine model is used to investigate the effect of vertical wind veer associated with the Coriolis force on the structure and evolution of wind turbine wakes. In order to isolate the Coriolis effect on t ...

Plate heat exchangers are adopted in many domestic and industrial applications, such as ventilation, air conditioning, evaporation or condensation process, heat pumps and cooling of hydrodynamic circuits in engines. In the present thesis, an extensive expe ...

Boiling heat transfer in microchannels has been investigated extensively in the last two decades. However, most results from independent experimental studies display a substantial disagreement on the influence of the flow conditions and mechanisms on the h ...

At the interface with solids, the mobility of liquid molecules tends to be reduced compared with bulk, often resulting in increased local order due to interactions with the surface of the solid. At room temperature, liquids such as water and methanol can f ...
