A numerically efficient framework that takes into account the effect of the Coulomb collision operator at arbitrary collisionalities is introduced. Such a model is based on the expansion of the distribution function on a Hermite-Laguerre polynomial basis t ...

Crystalline organic semiconducting materials are much in demand for multiple electronic and optoelectronic device applications. Here, solution grown ultrathin rhombic crystals of a trimethine carbocyanine anionic dye are used to establish relationships bet ...

The successful performance of a model predictive profile controller is demonstrated in simulations and experiments on the TCV tokamak, employing a profile controller test environment. Stable high-performance tokamak operation in hybrid and advanced plasma ...

Metallic mirrors exposed in TCV tokamak were cleaned by plasma in laboratory. A gold (Au) mirror was deposited with 185-285 nm of amorphous carbon (aC:D) film coming from the carbon tiles of TCV. Another molybdenum (Mo) mirror had a thicker deposit due to ...

ELMs and Sawteeth, located in different parts of the plasma, are similar from a control engineering point of view. Both manifest themselves through quiescent periods interrupted by periodic collapses. For both, large collapses, following long quiescent per ...

Multi-slit triode ion-optical systems with spherical electrodes are of interest for formation of intense focused neutral beams for plasma heating. At present, two versions of focusing multi-slit triode ion optical system are developed. The first ion optica ...

An extensive statistical characterization of the electromagnetic turbulence in the edge region of RFX-mod, operated as a tokamak and as a Reversed Field Pinch, is presented. Striking similarity are observed on the intermittent character of the electrostati ...

The International Tokamak Physics Activity Topical Group on scrape-off layer and divertor physics has amassed a database comprising hundreds of reciprocating Langmuir probe measurements of the main scrape-off layer heat-flux width lambda(q) in inner-wall l ...

Cleaning systems of metallic first mirrors are needed in more than 20 optical diagnostic systems from ITER to avoid reflectivity losses. Currently, plasma sputtering is considered as one of the most promising techniques to remove deposits coming from the m ...

The present review, written at the occasion of the 2014 EPS Innovation award, will give a short overview of the research and development of industrial plasmas within the last 30 years and will also provide a first glimpse into future developments of this i ...

Measurements of impurities in Alcator C-Mod indicate that in the pedestal region, significant poloidal asymmetries can exist in the impurity density, ion temperature, and main ion density. In light of the observation that ion temperature and electrostatic ...

In the present work, a Verification and Validation procedure is presented and applied showing, through a practical example, how it can contribute to advancing our physics understanding of plasma turbulence. Bridging the gap between plasma physics and other ...

Zonal flows (ZF) play a crucial role in regulating ion temperature gradient (ITG) turbulence. In previous global gyrokinetic simulations [1] using the ORB5 code with the adiabatic electron model, it was observed that long-lived ZF structures, leading to a ...

The cable-in-conduit-conductors (CICC) for the ITER Toroidal Field (TF) Coils are tested in the Sultan test facility in order to estimate their AC and DC performances under operating conditions. The tests are carried out on different stages of conductor pr ...

A theory-based scaling for the characteristic length of a circular, limited tokamak scrape-off layer (SOL) is obtained by considering the balance between parallel losses and non-linearly saturated resistive ballooning mode turbulence driving anomalous perp ...

An active plasma profile control approach for ITER, which is potentially robust by being tolerant to changing and uncertain physics, has been explored in this work, using a technique based on real-time estimation of linearized profile response models. The ...

Tokamaks with weak to moderate reversed central shear in which the minimum rotational transform

q_{min}

is in the neighbourhood of unity can trigger bifurcated MagnetoHydrodynamic (MHD) equilibrium states, one of which is similar to a saturated ideal ...

An integrated computational approach built on quantum mechanical (QM) methods, purposely tailored inter-and intra-molecular force fields and continuum solvent models combined with time-independent and timedependent schemes to account for nuclear motion eff ...

We study hydrogen in the Saha regime, within the physical picture in terms of a quantum proton-electron plasma. Long ago, Saha showed that, at sufficiently low densities and low temperatures, the system behaves almost as an ideal mixture made with hydrogen ...

We studied the relationships between testate amoeba communities and heavy metal (Pb, Cd, Zn, Ni, Cu, Mn, and Fe) concentrations in the moss Barbula indica sampled at 29 sites in and around the city of Hanoi (Vietnam). Our first approach was to compare the ...
