Plantar pressure plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of foot ulcers among patients with diabetes and peripheral polyneuropathy. Pressure relief is a key requirement for both the prevention and treatment of plantar ulcers. Conventional medical practice ...

Diabetic foot ulceration is a serious challenge worldwide which imposes an immense risk of lower extremity amputation and in many cases may lead to the death. The presented work focuses on the offloading requirements using an active approach and considers ...

Diabetes impacts on brain metabolism, structure, and function. Alterations in brain metabolism have been observed in obesity and diabetes models induced by exposure to diets rich in saturated fat and/or sugar and have been linked to memory impairment. Howe ...

Diabetes is a rapidly growing disease, with important complications that decrease the quality of life of patients. Diabetic Foot Ulceration is a major complication of diabetes and can lead to gangrene and amputation. It is related to high pressure develope ...

MRI-derived brain measures offer a link between genes, the environment and behavior and have been widely studied in bipolar disorder (BD). However, many neuroimaging studies of BD have been underpowered, leading to varied results and uncertainty regarding ...

Magnetorheological (MR) fluids are materials characterized as “intelligent” since their rheological properties may be controlled by the excitation of an external magnetic field. The application of the latter brings the fluid from a liquid to a semi-solid s ...

We study in this thesis the asymptotic behavior of optimal paths on a random graph model, the configuration model, for which we assign continuous random positive weights on its edges. We start by describing the asymptotic behavior of the diameter and the f ...

Background and objective: To automatically identify patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) who have high risk of developing diabetic foot, via an unsupervised machine learning technique. Methods: We collected a new database containing 54 known risk factors f ...

Exercising is strongly recommended for prevention and treatment of pathologies with high prevalence such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that insufficient physical activity is one of the leading ...

Hamiltonian Monte Carlo (HMC) is a widely deployed method to sample from high-dimensional distributions in Statistics and Machine learning. HMC is known to run very efficiently in practice and its popular second-order "leapfrog" implementation has long bee ...

This thesis has been put in place during the development of an innovative medical device which consists in an intelligent footwear for foot plantar pressure redistribution in diabetic patients. In fact, despite the several sophisticated techniques develope ...

Glucose is one of the most important metabolites that plays a key role in living organisms, as it is the primary energy source. Glucose metabolism is also an integral part in the pathogenesis of diabetes and cancer. Despite this tremendous impact of glucos ...

Bilinear models of count data with Poisson distribution are popular in applications such as matrix factorization for recommendation systems, modeling of receptive fields of sensory neurons, and modeling of neural-spike trains. Bayesian inference in such mo ...

This paper presents statistical distributions of lightning current parameters based on the lightning current and current-derivative waveforms measured at the Säntis Tower site in 2010 and 2011. The total number of flashes analyzed in this study was 167, wh ...

Background: The control of the functional pancreatic beta-cell mass serves the key homeostatic function of releasing the right amount of insulin to keep blood sugar in the normal range. It is not fully understood though how beta-cell mass is determined. ...

The joint angles of multi-segment foot models have been primarily described using two mathematical methods: the joint coordinate system and the attitude vector. This study aimed to determine whether the angles obtained through these two descriptors are com ...
