We address the problem of joint path selection and video source rate allocation in multipath streaming in order to optimize a media specific quality of service. An optimization problem is proposed, which aims at minimizing a video distortion metric based o ...

Large scale power production benefits from the high efficiency of gas-steam combined cycles. In the lower power range, fuel cells are a good candidate to combine with gas turbines. Such systems can achieve efficiencies exceeding 60%. High temperature Solid ...

The subject of this work is the study of the electrochemical promotion of catalysis (EPOC), also called non-Faradaic electrochemical modification of catalytic activity (NEMCA). In this phenomenon, application of small currents or potentials on catalysts in ...

In industrial polymerization processes, several grades of polymer are frequently produced in the same plant by changing the operating conditions. Transitions between the different grades are rather slow and result in the production of a considerable amount ...

Anewanalytical modeling approach for piezoelectric bending elements is described. The approach is based on the beam theory under quasi-static equilibrium condition. It uses the theory of superposition of piezoelectric action in the bender and external mome ...

Reliability of SOFC stacks is a complex and key issue. This paper presents a simulation study including some degradation processes, namely, interconnect degradation and the anode reoxidation potential. Quantification for these phenomena has been included i ...

A thermodynamic model is developed for the precipitation of copper oxalate from aqueous solutions of copper nitrate and sodium oxalate in a small well-mixed batch reactor. This model is then used to explain the discrepancy between experimental pH evolution ...

A detailed characterization of the time scales and mechanisms by which RNA molecules change their folding structure upon binding of metabolites or during catalysis is important for the understanding of the different biological functions of RNA. The folding ...

The preparation of oligoribonucleotides is of great interest for structural and functional investigations in biomolecular chemistry and biology. Relevant RNAs are relatively long and contain often modifications. Two methods for their preparation are curren ...

Motivated by applications in orthopaedic and maxillo-facial surgery, the mechanical behaviour of cortical bone tissue in cyclic overloads at physiological strain rates is investigated. The emphasis is on the development of appropriate constitutive laws tha ...

Discrete optimization is a difficult task common to many different areas in modern research. This type of optimization refers to problems where solution elements can assume one of several discrete values. The most basic form of discrete optimization is bin ...

This paper presents a method to model and optimize brushless dc motor for a solar airplane. In order to obtain the optimal solution for the given specifications, all free parameters are analyzed globally in one go. For this, the commercial optimization sof ...
