Organic solvents are ubiquitous in industrial and domestic applications from the production of pharmaceuticals to household consumer products. The negative impact of most traditional solvents, especially aprotic types, on the environment, health, and safet ...

In this work, we study the impact of aspect ratio A = R 0 / r (the ratio of major radius R 0 to minor radius r) on the confinement benefits of negative triangularity (NT) plasma shaping. We use high-fidelity flux tube gyrokinetic GENE simulations and consi ...

Group 9 metals, in particular Rh III complexes with cyclopentadienyl ligands, are competent C–H activation catalysts. Recently, a Cp*Rh III catalyzed reaction of alkenes with N -enoxyphthalimides showed divergent outcome based on the solvent, with carboami ...

Understanding the origins of intrinsic stress in Si nanowires (NWs) is crucial for their successful utilization as transducer building blocks in next-generation, miniaturized sensors based on nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS). With their small size lead ...

The use of all-inorganic perovskite nanocrystals (PeNCs) in photocatalytic systems has been limited because of their instability in polar solvents. Encapsulation of PeNCs in inorganic or polymeric matrices has been shown to be effective in overcoming such ...

Organocatalysts promote a range of C-N bond forming reactions of amines with CO2. Herein, we review these reactions and attempt to identify the unifying features of the catalysts that allows them to promote a multitude of seemingly unrelated reactions. Ana ...

Continuum models to handle solvent and electrolyte effects in an effective way have a long tradition in quantum-chemistry simulations and are nowadays also being introduced in computational condensed-matter and materials simulations. A key ingredient of co ...

Dative boron–nitrogen bonds can be used for the controlled assembly of boronate esters and N-donor ligands. So far, most investigations have focused on crystalline assemblies. In contrast, there are very few reports about soft materials based on dative B–N ...

In homogeneous catalysis, the main emphasis on improving catalyst performance (rate, yield and selectivity) is directed towards manipulation of the ligands. The steric and electronic effects of ligands are extremely well understood and the rational design ...

Fluorescent solvatochromic dyes and molecular rotors have attracted considerable attention as fluorogenic probes because of background-free detection of biomolecules in live cells in no-wash conditions. Herein, we introduce a push-pull boron-containing (di ...

It is possible to control the geometry and the composition of metallasupramolecular assemblies via the aspect ratio of their ligands. This point is demonstrated for a series of iron- and palladium-based coordination cages. Functionalized clathrochelate com ...

Para-water is an analogue of para-hydrogen, where the two proton spins are in a quantum state that is antisymmetric under permutation, also known as singlet state. The populations of the nuclear spin states in para-water are believed to have long lifetimes ...

Organolead iodide perovskite, CH3NH3PbI3, was prepared in the form of nanowire by means of a small quantity of aprotic solvent in two-step spin-coating procedure. One-dimensional nanowire perovskite with the mean diameter of 100 nm showed faster carrier se ...

Although the protein yields from transient gene expression (TGE) with Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells have recently improved, the amount of plasmid DNA (pDNA) needed for transfection remains relatively high. We describe a strategy to reduce the pDNA amou ...

Selective hydrogenation of 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol (MBY) to 2-methyl-3-butene-2-ol (MBE) over Pd supported on hypercrosslinked polystyrene was studied in polar (ethanol, isopropanol, water) and non-polar (cyclohexane, toluene, octane, hexane, heptane and m-x ...

Understanding the fundamental reactions accompanying the capture of carbon dioxide in amine solutions is critical for the design of high-performance solvents and requires an accurate modeling of the solute-solvent interaction. As a first step toward this g ...

Radicals play an important role in many areas of chemistry, such as atmospheric, aquatic, polymer, and biological, to name a few. Radicals are often highly reactive species which are short-lived and therefore harder to study by experimental techniques. In ...

Measurements of the ultrafast broadband UV fluorescence of N-acetyltryptophanamide (NATA) provide detailed information on its relaxation patterns in three different solvents: methanol (MeOH), water and acetonitrile (ACN). Several processes leading to excit ...

Control of the N-glycosylase reaction by the DNA repair enzyme, MutY, entails the organization of solvent molecules. Classical molecular dynamics and QM/MM simulations were used to investigate the solvent and environment effects contributing to catalysis. ...

This paper reports on the fabrication of sub-micron trenches on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) required in many MEMS devices and on bulk silicon. Trenches in the range of 100-500 nm had been etched with the deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) by using the SHARP ( ...
